Topic: The Modern Geoscientists: How to Prepare and Adapt in a Challenging Industry

Presenter: Ms. Michelle Thoms, P.Geo.

FileMichelle Thoms is a Professional Geoscientist who has been working in the energy industry for almost 7 years. Originally from Newfoundland, Michelle graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a Bachelor Science (Honors) majoring in Earth Science and receiving a minor in Mathematics. She began her career with ConocoPhillips Canada working in a variety of roles including petrophysics, operations and development geology. Most recently, she worked in business development and competitor analysis at Cenovus Energy.

Michelle's talk will discuss the challenges of the oil and gas industry, a geologist's role in the workplace and the versatility a geologist offers. Her talk will also discuss tips for creating resumes and how to differentiate yourself while you're still in school.
