Canadian Math Kangaroo Contest

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is happy to host the 2014 Canadian Math Kangaroo Contest.

  • Registration includes $16 registration fee per student to cover the costs of organizing the event.
  • Contest content is covered in the Province Math Curriculum. Problems require creativity, logical thinking or a different perspective. Herein lies the challenge.
  • The test can be written in English or in French.
  • Students compete in six grade categories:
    • Grade 1 and Grade 2;
    • Grade 3 and Grade 4;
    • Grade 5 and Grade 6;
    • Grade 7 and Grade 8;
    • Grade 9 and Grade 10;
    • Grade 11 and Grade 12;
  • The test for grades 1-2 consists of 18 multiple-choice questions, arranged in increasing difficulty, to be answered in 45 minutes. The test for grades 3-4 consists of 24 multiple-choice questions, arranged in increasing difficulty, to be answered in 60 minutes. The test for grades 5-12 consists of 30 multiple-choice questions, arranged in increasing difficulty, to be answered in 75 minutes.
  • Calculators are not permitted.
  • The problems are divided in three categories, A, B, and C, by the level of challenge. Each category consists of 6, 8, or 10 problems.
