Students in Research

Most science is done by teams of students, postdoctoral researchers, and professors. There are many opportunities for students to acquire experience in scientific research. Such opportunities include working as a research assistant, writing an Honours thesis, and undertaking Master's or Doctoral degrees.

Undergraduate Student Research

  • NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Awards (Applications are due in late January, annually.)
  • NSERC Industrial Undergraduate Student Research Awards (Applications may be made at any time.)
  • Honours Degrees
    • All departments in the Faculty of Science offer programs that lead to the Bachelor of Science Honours (BSc Hons) degree. Program information is available in the University Calendar, but we recommend that prospective students also consult the academic program advisors in Science and individual departments.

Graduate Student Research

  • NSERC Postgraduate Scholarships (Applications are due in early October, annually.)
  • NSERC Industrial Undergraduate Student Research Awards (Applications may be made at any time and are open to International students)
  • Graduate Degrees
    • All departments in the Faculty of Science offer programs that lead to the Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees.
