Student email - Fall semester remote delivery

Updated on Jun 15
Tags: students, all updates

Dear prospective and current students,

We know that you are anxious to hear about what the University of Regina has planned for the Fall 2020
semester course delivery. The Fall 2020 semester will look a little different than past Fall semesters, but
the University of Regina’s (U of R) commitment to your wellbeing and providing you with a quality
education remain our top priority.

The University of Regina's Fall semester runs from September 2 until December 23, 2020. Reading week
will be November 9 - 14, 2020.

We are doing our utmost to update information to our website as it becomes available. Please continue
to reference via our website at for additional details about what you can expect
for fall semester.

Your health and safety have been of utmost importance in the planning of our Fall Semester class
delivery. As a result, the University of Regina will be delivering classes via a primarily remote teaching
and learning format for the Fall 2020 semester.

Rest assured, we are investing significant time and effort to make the remote learning experience as
effective and engaging as possible. Every course will meet all the necessary academic requirements,
leading to the same approved, accredited, and recognized degrees that students would earn through
face-to-face classes.

First and second year classes

What this means is that as first and second-year students you will be able to take classes at the U of
R from virtually anywhere. Your classes will be delivered remotely through primarily synchronous
formats (i.e. zoom and scheduled class delivery) or primarily asynchronously (via UR Courses where
the course material is already uploaded).

Upper year classes

The majority of upper year classes will also be delivered via a remote teaching and learning format.

A very limited number of specialized, low-density, mostly upper-year labs and studios will be
conducted on campus during the fall semester. Only labs that require specialized equipment will be
offered. Any student who is enrolled in one of these labs will be contacted directly by their faculty to
discuss the possibility of attending these specific labs/studios in person, as well as any alternate
arrangements that may be needed.

For anyone needing to be on campus, please know that we are working to minimize the number of
people on campus; strict physical distancing will be maintained; heightened cleaning practices will be
undertaken; and the use of personal protective equipment may be required.

We are aware of the anxiety and uncertainty many students are feeling not knowing what to expect
come September. Therefore, we have chosen to clarify our plans for the Fall 2020 semester sooner
rather than later, so students can begin planning the next steps in their academic careers.

We understand also that, for any number of reasons, some students may still wish to reside on-campus
during the Fall 2020 semester. Accommodations will be made available for those who require oncampus housing. Strict physical distancing and sanitation protocols will be in place for those staying in residence. It is important to note, however, that beyond providing the essentials, very few on-campus services will be available.

Please contact our housing services team at 306-585-5450 to discuss or arrange accommodations if required.

The overall fall fee schedule will be posted within the next few weeks at Additionally, students can log into UR SelfService with their student identification number to view their account and pay tuition.
The University of Regina is taking several steps to ease the financial burden that many students are
facing during these extraordinary times.
• No tuition increase has been applied to the Fall 2020 semester;
• Recreation and Athletic fees will be waived for the Fall 2020 semester; and,
• Parking fees are not being applied for the Fall 2020 semester.

We very much appreciate and value your choice to be a student at the University of Regina this fall! We
hope that the information shared in this message will assist you in finalizing your plans for fall.
Additional details will be shared with you on our website as they become available.
