Dear members of the University community,

This message focuses on plans for the Winter 2021 semester to allow students and their families, as well as faculty and staff, ample time to prepare.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of Regina has made the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff our top priority. In keeping with that commitment and based on current information, the University of Regina, together with the University of Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Polytechnic, has decided to continue into the Winter 2021 semester with our present approach to course delivery.

In other words, the Winter 2021 term will be much like the Fall term. Courses will be delivered remotely with the exception of a limited number of low-density face-to-face classes, labs, studios and clinical placements. This approach offers students the best chance of academic success as we continue to navigate the rapidly changing landscape of the global pandemic.

Once again, the University’s Academic Incremental Recovery (AIR) group will undertake comprehensive work on the details of the model including which course elements can and will be delivered in-person with appropriate safety protocols in place.

We will build on what we have learned since the emergence of COVID-19 in the province and will ensure that, together with the flexibility needed to manage the risks of the pandemic, there is an opportunity to adjust these plans should circumstances later this year permit.

Our first responsibility is a safe environment for students, faculty and staff while still offering a rich and robust academic and research experience. I am confident that our consultations and planning will continue to yield a delivery model that meets teaching, learning, and research needs while keeping people safe. More details about the Winter 2021 model will be communicated as they become known.
