The procedures to be followed in the event of a loss to the University are as follows:

As per the recommended procedure in the University of Regina Emergency Handbook;

  1. Fire: Call 9-911 and notify Fire Department and City Police immediately, then notify Security at 585-4999. Security will document all the facts and observations of the incident on a General Occurrence form and send a copy to the Associate Vice-President (Finance) for use in the insurance claim process. Security will also notify appropriate Physical Plant personnel.
  2. Theft / Break-In / Vandalism: If it is an incident in progress or if there are injuries or loss of life, call 9-911 immediately. Then call Security at 585-4999. Do not touch or move anything until the Police complete their investigation. Security will document all observations and facts on a General Occurrence Form, including the name of the investigating officer and the police file number, and send a copy to the Associate Vice-President (Finance). Security will also notify appropriate Physical Plant personnel.
  3. Property damage from flooding, accidents, etc.: Same procedures as above for theft, except that the City Police need not be notified unless there is injury or loss of life. Physical Plant needs to be notified immediately.
  4. Accidents Causing Bodily Injury: If there is injury or loss of life, call 9-911 immediately. Then notify Security at 585-4999. Security will document the accident on a General Occurrence report and forward a copy to the Associate Vice-President (Finance). Any incident causing injury to any individual must be reported to the Associate Vice-President (Finance) (local 4171) immediately. This is to ensure the accident scene is preserved and evidence is gathered in case a lawsuit is subsequently launched against the University. This is essential as LATE REPORTING COULD ADVERSELY AFFECT THE UNIVERSITY'S INSURANCE COVERAGE. In addition, depending on who is injured, the following procedures are to be followed:

    Faculty and Staff: The incident must be reported immediately to Human Resources (local 4165). A "Worker's Report of Injury" and an "Employer's Report of Injury" must be completed. The forms are available from Human Resources. Human Resources will then forward the forms to the Saskatchewan Workers' Compensation Board with a copy to the Associate Vice-President (Finance) for liability insurance purposes.

    Students: Full time students are covered by the Student Accident Benefit Plan. The plan covers full time students while engaged in University approved activities and pays for certain medical expenses which are not covered by Saskatchewan Hospitalization. An "Incident - Accident Report" form must be completed immediately and forwarded to the University Health Clinic, Room 109 College West with a copy sent to the Associate Vice-President (Finance) for liability insurance purposes.

    Others (Visitors, General Public, etc.): An "Incident - Accident Report" form must be completed immediately and forwarded to the Associate Vice-President (Finance) for liability insurance purposes.
