The University of Regina Library invites applications from dynamic, proactive, and service-oriented candidates for the position of Nursing Liaison Librarian. The Dr. John Archer Library supports the research and teaching of faculty and students at the University of Regina through its services, collections and information technology infrastructure. Library staff, numbering 70 in total, connect users to the library collection and other sources of information through traditional reference services, and through the provision of librarian services on-site to academic departments and research centres. Instruction in finding information is also provided, both in the form of general orientations and class or specific subject orientations. The Library’s extensive collection of approximately 2.4 million items is listed in Voyager, as are the holdings of the University’s three federated colleges, Campion College, Luther College, and First Nations University of Canada. The Library also maintains the University Archives whose collections consist of original materials relating to the University, its faculty, staff, and students, dating from the inception of Regina College in 1911 to the present day, and oURspace, a digital repository for scholarly literature, research results, official communications, and materials which define the cultural context of the University of Regina. The Library is a partner with several external organizations, including CRKN (Canadian Research Knowledge Network), COPPUL (Council of Prairie and Pacific University Libraries), CARL (Canadian Association of Research Libraries), the Multitype Library Board, and RegLIN.

The Library recently unveiled its Strategic Plan, a staff-driven document that will guide the Library’s course for the next five years. This strategic plan is aligned with the University’s Strategic Plan, entitled mâmawohkamâtowin: Our Work, Our People, Our Communities.

About the Position:

The Nursing Liaison Librarian will work under the general direction of the Head, Research Services and in consultation with the Associate University Librarian, User Services and Collections, subject liaison librarians, and other library staff and library users. The incumbent will be the Library’s liaison for the newly-created Faculty of Nursing, and will work in collaboration with the library services at SIAST (Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology) to deliver the Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (SCBsCN) program (see http://www.uregina.ca/nursing/).

These Nursing Liaison Librarian position will have a range of duties, including:

  1. Provide liaison services to the Faculty of Nursing and related academic health science faculties or departments. This involves serving as the primary point of contact between the Library and the academic department, working with the faculty members and students in the department to ensure that their library needs are met, and fostering a close relationship between the academic department and the Library.
  2. Develop and deliver specialized library instruction in Nursing and related areas, and develop information literacy strategies and approaches in these areas in coordination with the overall instructional efforts of Library Research Services.
  3. Deliver online instruction supported by new technologies including URCourses/Moodle, Adobe Connect, Camtasia, etc.
  4. Provide specialized reference service and research consultations for faculty and students by appointment.
  5. Develop on an ongoing basis Library collections in assigned subject areas, ensuring the availability of resources which support the Nursing program and are responsive to the needs of faculty and students.
  6. Work collaboratively with Nursing faculty and with library counterparts at SIAST to ensure alignment of library resources and services.
  7. Work collaboratively with Archer library colleagues on committees and working groups that advance all aspects of library planning, policy formulation and service delivery.
  8. Contribute to institutional planning as a member of library and university councils and committees.
  9. Maintain a current awareness of emerging trends and best practices in instructional delivery and collections development specific to nursing and health sciences librarianship.

Required qualifications:

  • An ALA-accredited master’s degree in information/library science.
  • A minimum of two to three years of professional experience in the area of nursing or health-sciences librarianship.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and best practices in instructional delivery and reference service, and collections development.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the concepts of information literacy, especially in academic settings.
  • Teaching and/or library instructional experience, including distance delivery using a variety of electronic means, would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of trends in reference and research services, and the delivery of library and information services in the educational and research environment.
  • An understanding of the principles and current trends of information: its creation, dissemination, archiving, retrieval, and evaluation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Salary is based on the academic rank assigned which is commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
