Women's and Gender Studies

Women's and Gender Studies (WGST), an interdisciplinary subject area, enables students to pursue studies focusing on gender and women's issues. Women's and Gender Studies courses complement course requirements in most disciplines by emphasizing women's roles and contributions to society. Hence students can include in their program a broad range of courses from various disciplines that deal specifically with the study of women and/or gender. Courses in WGST are designed to promote critical awareness and appreciation of the diverse experiences of women.

Women's and Gender Studies courses are open to students in every faculty. Instructors in WGST are specialists in various traditional disciplines whose research focuses on women's issues. The Women's and Gender Studies Program thus draws upon a rich source of experience and expertise.

A major or minor in Women's and Gender Studies includes WGST 100, WGST 200, WGST 220 or 372, and courses selected from each of the three areas of study: humanities, social sciences and fine arts. Any student interested in Women's and Gender Studies is encouraged to contact the Program Coordinator.
