January 5, 2012

The 6th floor Computer Lab (LY 612) will be getting new tables.  As a result, the lab will be closed from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm on Tuesday, January 17, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm on Wednesday, January 18, and from 8:00 am to noon on Friday, January 19.

December 9, 2011

The Information Desk will be moving Thursday, December 8 to its new location.  Starting at 9:00 am it will be located near the library's entrance across from the Borrowing Desk.  After this move is completed the old Information Desk will be dismantled.

November 15, 2011

The stand up workstations on the main floor are being relocated near the east end of the new seminar rooms.  The expected time line for the standup workstations to be moved is 5 days.  The 8 seminar rooms are now available for use and can be booked at the A/V Micromaterials Desk.  Laptops can also be requested at the Borrowing Desk.

October 11, 2011

Sixth Floor
Glass wall for the public washrooms will be installed the week of Oct. 11th.
Door and frame for the corridor to the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) to separate the public washrooms is scheduled to be delivered and installed by Oct 20th.

Third, Fourth and Fifth Floors
Lighting for the floors is scheduled to arrive the week of Nov. 3rd.
Coring has been completed on the floors for the new lounge spaces.
Pak pole/floor box install is scheduled to be completed Oct 26th on these floors.

Main Floor
AV hub specifications are being completed with a 6 week delivery time frame (arrival in early Nov.)
Dry walling of the bulk heads is scheduled to be completed the week of Oct. 13th.
Information desk furniture move is scheduled to be completed the week of Oct 17th.

September 8, 2011

As part of the last phase of renovation, LY 612 will be closed in order to refinish floors and move computers. The dates of closure are Thursday September 15th through Tuesday September 20th. Sessions already scheduled during this time have been rescheduled through Micromaterials. We apologize for the inconvenience. September 7, 2011

All current journals are now available on the 5th floor. Journals with call numbers PS-Z are shelved on stand alone units. The remainder (LC range A-PR) are on trucks in boxes, arranged in call number order along the walls, and will be transferred to permanent shelving later in September. All current and collected newspapers have also been moved from the Micromaterials area on the main floor to the 5th floor Reading Room.

August 23, 2011

Dr. John Archer Library - Floor 6

  • Facilities Management (FM) is waiting for furniture and some electrical that needs to be completed. Electrical drawings should be completed by the end of the week of August 15, 2011. The electrical work should be completed by the end of the week of August 22.
  • New computer tables for the computer lab have been ordered (delivery date is August 23).
  • Work on the new hallway to the public washrooms on Floor 6 and the entrance to the CTL will begin the week of August 15.

Floors 3, 4 and 5

  • FM is working on a solution (either custom built or modular) for the wall shelving units for the west end of 5 (current periodicals/journals).
  • Lounge furnishings to be delivered September 20.
  • Carpet tiles for lounge areas to be installed the week of August 22 (tentative).
  • Location of additional electrical and line drops for lounge areas has been finalized.
  • Lounge area feature walls to be painted (timeline TBA).

Main Floor

  • Equipment for the new instruction space (e.g., Huddleboards, MediaScape, etc.) will be delivered September 6.
  • Target date for installation of the new Information Desk is September 6.
  • Tentative delivery date for the Skyfold wall system (to divide the two new instruction rooms) is September 9.
  • The wall dividing seminar rooms behind the existing Information Desk has been removed. Painting, drywall repair and painting should be completed by the end of the week of August 15. The large seminar room will no longer be available for student use as UArchives will be utilizing this space.
  • Renovations to office LY 107.23 to be completed by the end of the week of August 22.

Carpeting will be installed at the west end of the 5th Floor starting this week, possibly as early as Tuesday

The Current Journals Reading Room is moving to a new location in the Library this summer as part of a renovation project. The new reading room will be located at the west end of the 5th Floor. In preparation for the move, current issues of journals are temporarily located on book trucks. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Additional renovation highlights include new furnishings in the 6th Floor computer lab, updated study areas on Floors 3, 4 and 5 that provide a variety of individual and group study options, a new instruction and computer lab space on the Main Floor, and 8 new consultation rooms.

All remaining journals in book trucks in the old 6th floor Reading Room will be moved to the sorting area in the Circulation Department. In addition, the current newspaper stand has been relocated to the AV/Micromaterials Desk on the main floor.
