The University of Regina Library invites applications from dynamic, proactive, service- and team-oriented candidates for the position of Student Success Librarian. We are seeking a creative librarian with a strong background in user services and information literacy capable of building and leading comprehensive undergraduate student-focused library services that support teaching, research, and student success in partnership with user services staff, liaison librarians and others in the library and the wider campus community.

The University of Regina Library supports the research and teaching of faculty and students at the University of Regina through its services, collections and information technology infrastructure. Reference and information services are both library-based and provided by librarians on-site in faculties, departments and research centres. Instruction in finding information is also provided, both in the form of general orientations and class or subject specific instruction sessions. The Library’s extensive collection of approximately 2.4 million items is listed in our Voyager catalogue (currently transitioning to ALMA), as are the holdings of the University’s three Federated Colleges: Campion College; Luther College; and, First Nations University of Canada. The Library also comprises the University Archives with collections consisting of original materials relating to the University, its faculty, staff, and students, dating from the inception of Regina College in 1911 to the present day.  oURspace is the adoptive institutional digital repository for scholarly literature, research results, official communications, and materials which define the cultural context of the University of Regina and Saskatchewan. The Library is a partner with several external organizations, including CRKN (Canadian Research Knowledge Network), COPPUL (Council of Prairie and Pacific University Libraries), CARL (Canadian Association of Research Libraries), the Multitype Library Board, and the Consortium of Academic and Special Libraries of Saskatchewan (CASLS).

About the Position

Reporting to the Associate University Librarian: Teaching, Learning and Research, the Student Success Librarian will help shape new and innovative directions and initiatives in support of student learning, , with an emphasis on information literacy and knowledge acquisition. The Student Success Librarian will develop and coordinate library initiatives aimed at improving undergraduate student engagement and academic success at the University of Regina. They will collaborate with other Library units, provide advice and support to liaison librarians, engage in partnerships with academic support units, departments, and student associations, and, use these partnerships to develop a service agenda that supports and encourages undergraduate student achievement and lifelong learning. This position will also play an important role in coordinating the activities of the Library User Services assistants (LUSA’s) and the liaison librarians with respect to services for undergraduate students, as well as providing direction and mentorship to LUSA instructional and reference activities. They will supervise the Library User Services Manager and serve on the User Services Leadership Team.  Liaison librarian responsibilities will also be assigned and will take into consideration the Student Success Librarian’s interests and abilities.

Additional responsibilities to include:

  • Coordinating the Library’s presence at campus orientations and new student events;
  • Conducting research on and incorporating where possible current trends and best practices in the area of undergraduate student focused library programs and initiatives that foster student engagement and academic success;
  • Developing and implementing library programs and services with an emphasis on information literacy development and knowledge acquisition;
  • Coordinating, leading and assessing the information literacy program delivered by the Library User Services Assistants;
  • Fostering connections and working relationships between liaison librarians and user services staff;
  • Providing advice and guidance on teaching and learning methodologies to liaison librarians;
  • Incorporating new and existing technologies and platforms into reference, instruction and knowledge acquisition programs and services;
  • Developing and maintaining a strong connection with the academic support units, departments, Student Affairs, University of Regina Students’ Union (URSU) and faculty and staff.

Requirements: 

  • An ALA-accredited degree in information/library science;
  • A minimum of three years of professional library experience;
  • Experience in the areas of student engagement, instruction and reference services in physical and virtual environments;
  • Experience in developing and implementing educational programs;
  • Experience in, or significant knowledge of, library assessment and library promotion;
  • Experience in staff management and coaching, with preference given to experience in a multi-bargaining unit environment;
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the library profession, the University, and the community through participation in Library or University-wide committees, professional associations, and/or community projects.  The successful candidate is expected to pursue scholarly or professional activities that contribute to the research and creative environment of the University and the library profession in general.
