The online application takes about 30 minutes to complete.

The first time you access the online application, you will be asked to create a Login ID and PIN. For security reasons, it is important that you choose a unique (hard-to-guess) PIN number. Please make a note of your login information, as you will need it later.

Once you have started your application, you may choose to Finish Later. You can return to the application at any time by re-entering your Login ID and PIN number. However, you must complete it prior to the application deadline for your program.

Once you have completed all sections of the application and have verified that you entered your information correctly, click Application is Complete. You will be directed to the application fee payment screen where you can enter your credit card information. Please pay using either MasterCard, VISA, or American Express. Pre-paid credit cards and MasterCard Debit, VISA Debit or American Express Debit are not acceptable methods of payment.

  • Official transcripts of academic records in sealed envelopes from the issuing institution (a certified legal translation is required if transcript is in a language other than English or French).  We accept unofficial transcripts for review purposes.  However, if you are accepted, you must submit official documents in order to receive a final full offer of admission.  Submit your documents by email as a PDF to GradDocs@uregina.ca
  • Two confidential reference forms, or two letters of recommendation.  At least one of the references (and preferably both) should be from a faculty member who teaches English literature at a degree-granting university.  these may be sent to GradDocs@uregina.ca by the referees only.  They must be sent as an attachment on letterhead of their institution or company and must include their signature.  The applicant's name is to appear in the subject line of the email.  If the referee is sending the forms by mail, the letter must arrive in a sealed envelope with their signature across the seal.
  • Resumeé; plus personal statement of interest outlining the applicant's purpose in applying to the M.A. in English program.  Thesis-based M.A. applicants should outline their proposed area of thesis research.  The Admissions committee (Honours/Graduate Committee) pays particular attention to this section of the application in considering whether we can support the applicant's needs, so care should be taken to make the personal statement as detailed and specific as possible.
  • Writing sample of at least 8 pages, and preferably no more than 20 pages, on English literature (an essay from a previous English course is acceptable, but should be submitted as a clean, unmarked copy)
  • For Creative Writing applicants: an ADDITIONAL creative writing sample or portfolio of up to 20 pages.
  • Non-refundable application fee. A non-refundable fee of $125 (CAD) for all domestic and international graduate applicants must be paid online using a valid credit card before an application will be considered. Pre-paid credit cards or Visa Debit, MasterCard Debit or American Express Debit are not acceptable methods of payment.  Note that the application fee is subject to change.
  • If applicable (international applicants from a university in which the language of instruction was not English), official test scores from English language proficiency tests.
