I am currently completing my Master's of Women's Studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland. The title of my project is: Alternative and Alternating Voices: Making meaningful narratives from a previous and current state of self with women living with Dementia at Agnes Pratt Home in St. John's, Newfoundland. My objective is to hear these women's stories from their own voice first, and their family's voice second. The final phase of this project will be to construct an interactive artistic wall within Agnes Pratt Home. The wall will serve as a point of connection between the woman that the family remembers, and the woman that they see now. The wall will demonstrate the significance of these women's multiple stories and multiple forms of communicating voice. The Women's Studies Programme at the U of R, really is something special. The community that formed for me in the hallway, the women's centre and in the classes shaped my knowledge, directed my ambition, and sent me away with high standards for academic relationships. I feel extremely lucky to have found a supervisor that provides a link between the themes of my project. Dr. Natalie Beausoleil is an artist, a community volunteer and a professor in the Community Health Division at M.U.N. Dr. Beausoleil's support and guidance has taught me that if I had not driven over the pot-holes, I would not be appreciating the roads without them.
