Computer Science Department Systems Account Policy

Use of your account on a continued basis (more than once) constitues your understanding and acceptance of the terms below. If you do not agree to these terms, please cease using your account.

Computer accounts are given to students for undergraduate and graduate work. Account information (username and password) must be treated as highly personal. If you allow another person to use your account, you, not the other person, are responsible for misuse or abuse of the account.

The University of Regina owns the account and has the right to govern its use. Disciplinary action for misuse of an account includes temporary or permanent loss of the account. An account to access Computer Science systems is a privilege, not a right.

Students taking Computer Science classes must talk to a CS Lab Instructor for resolving account releated problems. Other students please consult your class instructor. Lab Instructors hold Office Hours in CL119.

Do not tamper with system software, or other users' files, and do not run any programs that can interfere with the operation of the system. Abuse will result in an immediate loss of privileges and disciplinary action.

If you receive unsolicited messages from anyone on the system that you consider intrusive and/or offensive, please contact Computing Services immediately for appropriate action against the perpetrator(s).

Data residing in or entering into Canada is governed by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, all Canadian Laws, and University of Regina policy.

This account is provided in order to allow you to complete work related to a class or research. Computer Science machines are not provided for personal use.

There are disk quotas enabled for your account on the CS Linux systems. If you run out of disk space for your account you will have to remove some files before you can continue with using your account. Transfer files to your own system and remove them from your account. You can find more information under the "Disk Usage" section on CS Student Account Policies page.

Your account is disabled in the beginning when it was created, to use your account you will have to login to https://services.cs.uregina.ca/ and go to the Account tab to Enable your account. Once enabled you will be given a temporary password that you can use for your first login. You will be asked to change your password upon that first login.

Files in undergraduate and graduate accounts are backed up nightly. Even so, for your own safety, you should copy important files to your own system for yourself.

If there is a problem with the system you are trying to access, you can send mail to IT.Support@uregina.ca. Please specify what you were trying to access, the system you were accesing from, what you were trying to acheive, and your username and student ID.
