The NFRF is designed to support world-leading innovation and enhance Canada's competitiveness and expertise in the global, knowledge based economy.

It is administered by the Tri-agency Institutional Programs Secreteriat, which is housed within the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), on behalf of Canada's three federal research funding agencies: SSHRC, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council.
