International Designation

In support of the University of Regina's goal of internationalization and its expressed objective of providing educational opportunities of high quality, the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research is committed to developing strategies that will provide graduate students with opportunities to study and do research outside of Canada. It is important for students to have opportunities to work with experts and researchers from other countries, not on just their research, but also to learn and understand the people that they are working with.

The "International Designation" will be noted on the transcripts of students who have met the following criteria:

Graduation Requirements

Completion of at least one of the following international experiences:

  • The FGSR graduate international study tour (3 credits)
  • A minimum of a one-semester international co-op work term, internship or practicum
  • A three credit hour University of Regina graduate course (or a course taken on a letter of permission at another Canadian post secondary institute) that includes approximately two weeks out of the country. If the course includes less than two weeks out of the country, approval by the FGSR will be needed for the students to receive the international designation.
  • Participation in an international graduate student exchange program completing three or more credit hours
  • A minimum of three credit hours of graduate course work taken on site (not on line) by prior permission of the FGSR at an out of country post secondary institution.

Please note: The "International Designation" will be in effect for the Spring Convocation 2009. Graduate students with international experiences as defined above before 2009 will be eligible. When applying for graduation, students must self-declare that they wish to graduate with the "International Designation". There will be no retroactive assignment of the designation, i.e., will be available for current students who have yet to have the degree conferred.
