Students requiring KHS 451 can replace it with one of the following Philosophy classes: PHIL 20, PHIL 272, PHIL 273 or PHIL 276. In addition, students in the BKIN may be interested in PHIL 277, and students interested in the BSRS can take PHIL 274 to fulfill this requirement.
November 26, 2009
Students currently admitted to the Bachelor of Kinesiology will not be required to complete MathC30, or equivalent, in order to move into the revised Bachelor of Kinesiology curriculum. All new students will be expected to take the MathC30 prior to the start of the fall semester, or will be eligible for the KHS Qualifying program (2 semesters to take MathC30 or equivalent prior to admission to the BKIN)
November 20, 2009 Update
Students in Fitness and Lifestyle requiring KHS 472 will be allow to register for it for Winter 2010 with the prerequisite of KHS 269 if the new sequencing (see below) will adversly affect your completion time. Please see the General Office for approval.
The Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies is in the process of approving significant curricular changes to our current program. Most noteable changes include:
Division of current BKIN program (Adapted Physical Activity, Fitness and Lifestyle, Recreation and Sport Admininstration majors) into two distinct degrees - Bachelor of Kinesiology (BKIN) remains, and Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Studies (BSRS) is created.
Reallocation of majors/areas of interest within the new degree structure: BKIN includes Human Kinetics, Adapted Movement Science, Health Promotion and Gerontology majors; BSRS - Sport and Recreation Management and Therapeutic Recreation majors.
Reduction in number of courses required/used from outside of KHS within the revised curriculum. The BKIN is most impacted by this reduction; BSRS majors still include a considerable amount of courses from outside KHS (ie. SRM - 4 -BUS courses, ECON 100/201 and ECON 238; THRC major - 4 PSYC courses) in addition to the core/elective options.
Program Accreditation. The BKIN will meet all CCUPEKA (www.ccupeka.ca) accreditation requirements. The BSRS - SRM major will meet COSMA (www.cosmaweb.org) accreditation requirements; THRC major will meet the academic path eligibility requirements to seek certification in Therapeutic Recreation through NCTRC (www.nctrc.org).
