English Language Proficiency Requirements

The language of instruction for most programs at the University of Regina is English. Most applicants to the University of Regina must, therefore, demonstrate an appropriate level of proficiency in English.

The following will be accepted as satisfactory evidence of ELP:

1. English Language Proficiency List by Country
You may meet the English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirement for admission through the main language of instruction of education obtained in your home country. Find out by viewing our list of countries here.
2. English as a Second Language
Successful completion of the English for Academic Purposes courses EAP 100 and EAP 101 or a minimum placement level of 55 (overall average of 65 or higher) on the EAP placement exam both offered through the Centre for Continuing Education at the University of Regina. 3. Post-Secondary Studies

Successful completion of at least 24 credit hours (University of Regina degree level equivalent) from a post-secondary institution where English was the main medium of instruction and the studies included at least 6 credit hours in humanities or social science subjects and with a minimum grade point average of 60.00% (based on a 50% passing scale) is considered an acceptable demonstration of proficiency in English. Post-secondary institutions that meet this requirement must be verified by the University of Regina using industry-recognized higher education resources.

For the Faculty of Nursing, in order to use post-secondary studies as the demonstration of English proficiency, the studies must have been completed within two (2) years of application to the Faculty.

4. Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate English
Advanced Placement English (grade of 3 or better) or International Baccalaureate Higher English (grade of 4 or better).
5. Internationally Recognized Standards (GCSE/IGCSE/GCE, GCE A/AS/AICE)
GCSE/IGCSE/GCE O' Level English, English Language, or English as a Second Language with a minimum grade of '6' (grade of B prior to 2017) or GCE A/AS/AICE Level English or English Language with a minimum grade of 'C'.
6. English Proficiency Test

One of the following tests will also be accepted. Test results must be received by the Admissions Office directly from the testing service before the deadline for receipt of application documents. Test scores are valid within two years of the test result date.

For students from countries on the English Language Proficiency List by Country (above): successful completion of at least three years of formal, full-time study in English at a recognized secondary school where English is the primary language of instruction.
