Welcome to the official website of University of Regina. The University of Regina website consists of content provided under the uregina.ca domain (http://www.uregina.ca) and several hundred subdomains (from now on referred to collectively as the “Website”).

Please read these Privacy and Terms of Use (the “Policy”) carefully before using the Website. By accessing or using the Website, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and all applicable laws and regulations. If you do not agree with these terms, you must not use this website.

This Policy constitutes a legally binding agreement between you, the user, and University of Regina (the "University" or "we," "us," "our"). Your use of this Website, and any content or services available through it, constitutes your unconditional acceptance of this Policy.

This Policy outlines the terms of use of the Website and how we collect, use, and manage personal information when you visit the Website. Your access to and use of the Website is governed by the Policy, the University’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Policy and Use of Computer and Network Systems Policy.

All content available on the Website is intended for educational or informational purposes only and should not be used to replace either an official documents or the advice of a qualified professional, with an exception to the content that is explicitly identified by us as the official version of a document. The content on the Website is not intended to be a substitute for professional advice, whether medical, legal, or otherwise. We reserve the right to amend this Policy without notice.

We are a local authority under the Saskatchewan Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (“LA FOIP”). Our commitment is to protect the privacy of your personal information and be transparent about our data practices.

Collection and Use of Personal Information

We collect personal information for purposes that are related to our programs and activities, as permitted by LA FOIP. When you visit our Website, certain non-personally identifiable information is collected automatically to help us improve our services. The University does not collect personal Information for commercial marketing or distribution to third parties. The information is used by University employees to help us make our websites more useful to you, our audience, by learning about the number of times our Website is visited, by monitoring traffic patterns and monitoring the types of technology used when accessing our Website. The information collected by third parties is used to improve user experience, Website content, search, and visibility.

Some portions of the Website may distribute a tiny “cookie” file to your browser. Such files allow us to provide personalized information on your future visits and may be used for remarketing purposes. Remarketing targets advertising based on internet activity and may involve third parties such as Google or Facebook displaying advertising or messaging from the university on other sites. No personally identifying information is collected with cookies.

Information collected by University web servers

The University collects information about your visit to our Website and log any links clicked during the visit. The following type of information is collected by University web servers:

  • The Internet domain and Internet Protocol (IP) address (which is anonymized where possible) from which you access the Website
  • The browser type and operating system used to access the Website
  • The date and time you access the Website
  • The Pages visited on our Website and any links you clicked while on the pages
  • The Time spent on pages
  • The address of any external website from which you linked the Website

Information collected by Google Analytics

The University uses third-party services like Google Analytics to improve our services. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect information.

The following information may be collected by Google Analytics including other Google services like Google Search console, Google Ads and Google Tag Manager:

  • Hostname (a descriptive label that maps to an IP Address)
  • Type of device, browser, and operating system you used to access our website
  • Screen resolution of your device
  • Date and time you accessed our website
  • Webpages you visited
  • The address of any external website, source, or search engine from which you linked to the University’s website
  • Search terms and behaviour within search results
  • Location. Location is inferred based on IP address, which is then immediately discarded and not collected
  • Type of request (For example, a request for a page or an event)
  • Cookie values 
  • Language encoding
  • Actions taken while using our websites (For example, clicking on a button or submitting a form)
  • Information associated with Google signals. Google signals are session data from sites and apps that Google associates with users who have signed in to their Google accounts, and who have turned on Ads Personalization

While the above data is not used to personally identify you, it is considered personal information under LA FOIP.

Your Right to Opt-Out

Under LA FOIP, you have the right to withdraw your consent to collection of information at any time.

  • Browser Settings: You can control the use of cookies through your web browser's settings. If you wish, you may change the settings on your web browser to deny cookies or to warn you when cookies will be deposited. Please refer to your browser's help section for instructions on how to block, delete, or receive warnings about cookies.
  • Opt-Out Mechanism for Google Analytics: According to Google, the data collected cannot be altered or retrieved by services from other domains. If you choose, you can opt out by turning off cookies in the preferences settings in your browser. For more information on removing Ads Personalization in Google Analytics, please visit Google’s website.

Opting out of these cookies will not affect your ability to use the core functions of our Website.

Disclosure of Personal Information

We will not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. We may disclose personal information to our third-party service providers for the sole purpose of providing analytics services. These third parties are contractually bound to protect your information and are prohibited from using it for any other purpose.

We will only disclose your personal information in accordance with LA FOIP, such as when required by law or with your express consent.

Security and Retention of Information

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information in our possession or control from unauthorized access, collection, use, or disclosure. We will retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected or as required by law.

For the Website security, the University employs software programs to monitor network traffic and identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information or otherwise cause damage. Except for authorized investigations, no other attempts are made to identify individual users.

Terms of Use

Accuracy of Information

While we strive to ensure the information on this Website is accurate and current, we do not guarantee its completeness or accuracy. The information is provided for convenience and informational purposes only.

Copyright and Use

All content on this Website, including text, graphics, and images, is the property of University of Regina unless otherwise noted. You may use the content, not any logo or other visual representation, for personal and non-commercial purposes only, and in compliance with the Copyright Act (Canada). Provided that such content is not modified and the copyright and other legal or proprietary notices contained therein are not deleted or removed. Unless otherwise specified, the content, other than any logo or other visual representation, may be reproduced, in whole or in part, and by any means without charge or needing permission.

Information on the Website is produced by the University to provide University’s faculty, staff and students, and the public with information about the University programs and services. The content on the Website is covered by the Copyright Act (Canada) and all applicable laws, policies, and regulations.

Anyone using the information provided on the Website is required to:

  • exercise proper due diligence to ensure the accuracy of the information that is being reproduced;
  • ensure that the information is cited correctly by title and source; and

Access and Interference

In using the Website, you agree that you will not use any device, software, or process to interfere or attempt to interfere with its proper functioning. You also agree that you will not use any robot, spider, other automatic device, or manual process to impose an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on the University’s infrastructure. An “unreasonable or disproportionately large load” prevents other University community members from gaining fair and equitable access to web-based systems and resources.

Computer Viruses

While every effort is made to ensure that information provided on the Website does not contain computer viruses, you should take reasonable and appropriate precautions to scan for computer viruses. You should also ensure that you have a complete and current backup of the applicable items or information contained in your computer system. You should pay specific attention to some of the newer viruses written to automatically execute when an infected Word processing document is loaded into specific Word processing programs.

Governing Law and Jurisdiction

This Policy and your use of the Website are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Saskatchewan and the applicable laws of Canada, without regard to its conflict of law principles. You agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Saskatchewan.

Limitation of Liability

The website and all its content are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to, implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
