Web Privacy and Terms of Use

Welcome to the official website of University of Regina. The University of Regina website consists of content provided under the uregina.ca domain (http://www.uregina.ca) and several hundred subdomains (from now on referred to collectively as the “Site”).

Please read these Web Privacy & Terms of Use (the “Terms”) carefully before using the Site. By accessing or using the Site, you are agreeing to be bound by these Terms and all applicable laws and regulations. If you do not agree with these Terms, you must not use this Site.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you, the user, and University of Regina (the "University" or "we," "us," "our"). Your use of this Site, and any content or services available through it, constitutes your unconditional acceptance of these Terms.

These Terms outline the terms of use of the Site and how we collect, use, and manage personal information when you visit the Site. Your access to and use of the Site is governed by the Terms, the University’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Policy and Use of Computer and Network Systems Policy.

All content available on the Site is intended for educational or informational purposes only and should not be used to replace either official documents (except where the material on the Site is explicitly identified as the official version) or the advice of a qualified professional. We reserve the right to amend these Terms without notice.

We are a local authority under the Saskatchewan Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (“LA FOIP”). Our commitment is to protect the privacy of your personal information and be transparent about our data practices.

We collect personal information for purposes that are related to our programs and activities, as permitted by LA FOIP. When you visit our Site, certain non-personally identifiable information is collected automatically to help us improve our services. The University does not collect personal information for commercial marketing or distribution to third parties. The information is used by University employees to help us make our Site more useful to you, our audience, by learning about the number of times our Site is visited, by monitoring traffic patterns and monitoring the types of technology used when accessing our Site.

Personal information (such as name, address, phone number, e-mail address) obtained from users of the Site is collected, managed, used and disclosed by the University pursuant to LAFOIP.

If you should choose to provide us with personal information—in an e-mail or by filling out a form and submitting it to us through the Site —we will use that information to respond to your message and to help us get the information you have requested.

The Site uses cookies to track how visitors use the Site. Cookies are used to improve user experience, Site content, search, and visibility.

Information collected by University web servers

The University collects information about your visit to our Site and logs any links clicked during the visit. The following type of information is collected by University web servers:

• The Internet domain and Internet Protocol (IP) address from which you access the Site
• The browser type and operating system used to access the Site
• The date and time you access the Site
• The pages visited on our Site and any links you clicked while on the pages
• The time spent on pages
• The address of any external Site from which you linked the Site

Information collected by Google Analytics

The University uses Google Analytics to improve our services. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect information.

The following information may be collected by Google Analytics including other Google services like Google Search console, Google Ads and Google Tag Manager:

• Hostname (a descriptive label that maps to an IP Address)
• Type of device, browser, and operating system you used to access our Site
• Screen resolution of your device
• Date and time you accessed our Site
• Webpages you visited
• The address of any external Site, source, or search engine from which you linked to the University’s Site
• Search terms and behaviour within search results
• Location. Location is inferred based on IP address, which is then immediately discarded and not collected
• Type of request (For example, a request for a page or an event)
• Cookie values 
• Language encoding
• Actions taken while using our Sites (For example, clicking on a button or submitting a form)
• Information associated with Google signals. Google signals are session data from sites and apps that Google associates with users who have signed in to their Google accounts, and who have turned on Ads Personalization

While the above data is not used to personally identify you, it is considered personal information under LA FOIP.

Under LA FOIP, you have the right to withdraw your consent to collection of information at any time.

• Browser Settings: You can control the use of cookies through your web browser's settings. If you wish, you may change the settings on your web browser to deny cookies or to warn you when cookies will be deposited. Please refer to your browser's help section for instructions on how to block, delete, or receive warnings about cookies.
• Opt-Out Mechanism for Google Analytics: According to Google, the data collected cannot be altered or retrieved by services from other domains. If you choose, you can opt out by turning off cookies in the preferences settings in your browser. For more information on removing Ads Personalization in Google Analytics, please visit Google’s website.

Opting out of these cookies will not affect your ability to use the core functions of our Site.

We will not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. We may disclose personal information to our third-party service providers for the sole purpose of providing analytics services. These third parties are contractually bound to protect your information and are prohibited from using it for any other purpose.

We will only disclose your personal information in accordance these Terms and as provided under the LA FOIP, such as when required by law or with your express consent.

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information in our possession or control from unauthorized access, collection, use, or disclosure. We will retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected or as required by law.

For the Site security, the University employs software programs to monitor network traffic and identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information or otherwise cause damage. Except for authorized investigations, no other attempts are made to identify individual users.

Our Site may contain links to external sites not operated by us. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.

Links are provided for convenience and information only. Providing a link to an external site does not constitute an endorsement or approval by the University of any services, products or opinions expressed by the organization, corporation or individual maintained in the linked site. The University bears no responsibility for the external site's accuracy, legality, content, or subsequent links. In providing links to other sites, the University is not acting as a publisher or disseminator of the material on these other sites. It does not seek to control the content of or maintain editorial control over such sites.

A link on the Site to another site should not be construed as meaning that the University is associated with or is legally authorized to use any trademark, trade name, logo, or copyrighted symbol that may be reflected in the link or the description of the link to such other sites. In addition, the mention of another party or its product or services on the Site should not be construed as an endorsement of that party or its product or service.

When moving from the Site to any linked site, please ensure you review the privacy notification of that site, as this notification applies only to this Site.

Accuracy of Information

While we strive to ensure the information on this Site is accurate and current, we do not guarantee its completeness or accuracy. The information is provided for convenience and informational purposes only.

Copyright and Use

All content on this Site, including text, graphics, and images, is the property of University of Regina unless otherwise noted. You may use the content, excluding any logo or other visual representation, for personal and non-commercial purposes only, and in compliance with the Copyright Act (Canada), provided that such content is not modified and the copyright and other legal or proprietary notices contained therein are not deleted or removed. Unless otherwise specified, the content, with the exception of any logo or other visual representation, may be reproduced for personal non-commercial purposes, in whole or in part, and by any means without charge or the need to seek permission, unless otherwise specified.

Information on the Site is produced by the University to provide the University’s faculty, staff and students, and the public with information about University programs and services. The content on the Site is covered by the Copyright Act (Canada) and all applicable laws, policies, and regulations.

Anyone using the information provided on the Site is required to:

• exercise proper due diligence to ensure the accuracy of the information that is being reproduced;
• ensure that the information is cited correctly by title and source; and
• indicate that the copy is a reproduction of the information available on the University of Regina Site and that it has not been produced in affiliation with or with the endorsement of the University of Regina.

Commercial Reproduction

No advice or warranties

You shall be fully responsible for any consequences resulting from your use of the Site. The University does not guarantee the quality, accuracy, completeness or reliability of any of the information, content or advertisements (collectively the “Information") displayed, contained on, distributed through, or linked, downloaded or accessed from the Site, nor the quality of any products, information or other products or services displayed, purchased, obtained or used by you as a result of the Information in connection with the Site. While efforts are made to verify the Information, the Site may contain typographical or other errors and should not be assumed to be error free. Furthermore, some Information on the Site has been provided by third parties and has not necessarily been verified by the University.

Any reliance upon any Information shall be at your sole risk. The University reserves the right, in its sole discretion without any obligation, to make improvements to, or correct any errors or omissions in any part of the Site or the Information.

The Information and the Site are provided by the University on an "as is" basis, and the University disclaims all warranties expressed or implied, including, without limitation, any warranties for fitness for a particular purpose concerning the Information or the Site. In no event shall the University be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, punitive or consequential damages or any other damages whatsoever and howsoever caused arising out of or in connection with the use of the Site or in reliance on the Information, including the loss of use, lost data, lost business profits, business interruption, personal injury, or any other personal or pecuniary loss, whether the action is in contract, tort (including negligence) or other tortious action.

Trademarks

Certain words, phrases, names, designs, or logos used on the Site may constitute trademarks, official marks, service marks or trade names of the University or other entities. The display of such marks or names on the Site does not imply that the University or other entities have granted a license or authorization to use such marks or names.

Submissions

All information submitted to the University via the Site shall be deemed to be and remain the property of the University. The University shall be free to use, for any purpose, any ideas, concepts, know-how or other techniques contained in information provided to the University through the Site or e-mail unless otherwise agreed to in writing by the University. Furthermore, the University shall not be subject to any confidentiality obligations regarding any such information submitted to it unless otherwise agreed to in writing by the University.

The Internet is not secure, and privacy cannot be ensured. Internet e-mail is vulnerable to interception and forgery. The University will not be responsible for any damages you or any third party may suffer as a result of the transmission of confidential information to the University through the Internet or that you expressly or implicitly authorize the University to transmit to you through the Internet or for any errors or any changes made to any electronically transmitted information. If you are concerned about sending your personal or confidential information to the University via the Internet, you can use another method such as telephone, fax, or regular mail.

Access and Interference

In using the Site, you agree that you will not use any device, software, or process to interfere or attempt to interfere with its proper functioning. You also agree that you will not use any robot, spider, other automatic device, or manual process to impose an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on the University’s infrastructure. An “unreasonable or disproportionately large load” prevents other University community members from gaining fair and equitable access to web-based systems and resources.

Computer Viruses

While every effort is made to ensure that information provided on the Site does not contain computer viruses, you should take reasonable and appropriate precautions to scan for computer viruses. You should also ensure that you have a complete and current backup of the applicable items or information contained in your computer system. You should pay specific attention to some of the newer viruses written to automatically execute when an infected word processing document is loaded into specific word processing programs.

Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms and your use of the Site are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Saskatchewan and the laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to your use of the Information and the Site, and as to the interpretation, validity and effect of these Terms of Use, notwithstanding any conflict of laws provisions of your domicile, residence or physical location. You agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Province of Saskatchewan in any action.

Termination

We reserve the right to terminate your access to the Site at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, including for breach of these terms.

General Provisions

These Terms may be updated from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. The most current version will be posted on this page. Your continued use of the Site after any such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.
