Canada Foundation for Innovation

Innovation Fund (CFI IF) 2023 Competition

The Innovation Fund provides investments in infrastructure, across the full spectrum of research, from the most fundamental to applied through to technology development. Projects funded through the Innovation Fund will help Canada remain at the forefront of exploration and knowledge generation while making meaningful contributions to generating social, health, environmental and economic benefits and addressing global challenges. This competition supports transformative, large-scale, infrastructure projects that will underpin cutting-edge globally competitive research across all disciplines in areas of strategic importance to the University of Regina.

The University of Regina has started preparing for the CFI call for proposals expected in October 2021. Following an internal Call for Ideas in June 2021, the Associate VP (Research) is gathering an inventory of research infrastructure needs and projects to be considered. Potential overlaps and synergies will be explored with researchers with complementary projects building a competitive intra-institutional initiative. The demand for this competition is strong. The collective requests from UofR researchers of over $9 million is more than double our available envelope of $4 million. All requests are being carefully considered to ensure our limited funding is strategically allocated.
