Before You Start
Before you create a social media presence for your faculty or department ask yourself the following questions:
What are my communications goals?
Social media offers a set of tools. You need to determine what you want to use these tools for in order for them to be useful. (e.g,. community building, increasing enrolment, student support, to promote an event, share information, encourage dialogue, reputation building, etc.)
Who is my audience?
Your audience (e.g,. faculty, staff, students, Saskatchewan residents, etc.) has a choice whether to engage with your material or not. If you are not respectful of their time, interests, needs or preferred means of communication you risk losing an opportunity to engage with them.
Do I have time to maintain a site?
The time it takes to properly maintain a social media site depends on what your communications goals are and the social media channel(s) you choose.
