Shaun Fallat – Excellence in Teaching Printer-Friendly Version

shawn_fallat_bw.jpgThe Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching was presented to Shaun Fallat of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Convocation on June 7, 2007.

Each new day in the classroom is another opportunity for Fallat to inspire the novice and challenge the aspiring. His extensive technical knowledge and ability to present complex material with clarity and humour makes him an educator students are drawn to year after year. Not only does he make the extra effort to engage students on an individual basis he continually explores new teaching techniques to reach them better. This includes introducing innovative methods in the classroom as well as incorporating technology such as a personally designed course website to provide both relevant and supplemental information. He is also a willing volunteer who consistently offers himself as a resource to both students and colleagues, whether it is in serving as the faculty liaison to the Mathematics, Actuarial Science and Statistics student club or volunteering with the U of R annual Math camp for Grades 7 to 12.
