Dean's Welcome

Thanks for checking our the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies web page. Our Faculty is a dynamic and growing unit on campus that is constantly evolving to meet the changing nature of the kinesiology and health studies field. As you delve deeper into our website, I hope you will become aware of the exciting cutting edge programs in research, teaching, and service that make up the programming we offer.

Our undergraduate program is a good example of the dynamic changes that are taking place within our Faculty. We now offer three undergraduate degrees - a Bachelor of Kinesiology, a Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Studies, and a Bachelor of Health Studies. After extensive work, we have completely revitalized and renewed our Bachelor of Kinesiology program. Majors within this degree include Human Kinetics, Adapted Movement Science, Gerontology, and Health Promotion. The Bachelor of Sport and Receation Studies came out of our old B.Kin program and offers majors in Sport and Recreation Management and Therapeutic Recreation. All of these majors prepare our students for success in achieving external accreditations and opens up many career possiblities. The Bachelor of Health Studies is an interdisciplinary health studies program that is offered in cooperation with the Faculty of Arts and First Nations University and has a significant emphasis in aboriginal health issues. Our graduate programs are similarly evolving and students can pursue their degrees at the masters and Ph.D. levels.

The Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies is a research-intensive faculty, with over$5 million in external  research funding being held currently by various faculty members. Our brand new, well equipped research laboratories allow our researchers to investigate a number of topics, including falls in the elderly, psychophysiological correlates of mild brain trauma, nutrition and exercise interventions on osteoporosis, childhood and obesity, the effects of early introduction of body checking in hockey, proprioceptive influences in motor control, volunteerism in sport, ethical decision-making by health professionals, and aboriginal health issues, to name just a few. Our Faculty is home to world-class researchers with international reputations that are working at the cutting edge in kinesiology and health studies.

The home for the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies is the Centre for Kinesiology, Health, and Sport, which includes multiple research and teaching laboratories, several new "smart" classrooms, a total of 5 gymnasia, a modern and fully equipped fitness and lifestyle center with 200 m indoor running track, the Allied Health Centre (a collaboration between the Dr. Paul Schwann Applied Health and Research Centre and a private medical company to offer outstanding research, service, and teaching opportunities), individual team rooms for all of our Cougar and Ram interuniversity teams, and an athlete weight room.

The University of Regina is a dynamic, progressive, and growing institution and the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies is a major part of that growth. Come see the possibilities that we offer.
