The Organic Geochemistry of Source Rock and Basin Modeling of Block-15, Red Sea

Date: Friday, October 14
Time: 9:30AM – 11:00AM
Location: Research and Innovation Centre 209 (RIC 209)

We welcome you to attend a presentation by Dr. Gang Gao, Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Science at the University of Regina.

Dr. Gang Gao is a professional researcher who has been dedicated to petroleum geochemistry and petroleum geology for decades. He has served as a conscientious and remarkable academic member at China University of Petroleum (CUP) for over twenty years. He is currently the instructor of three main courses: Petroleum Exploration and Global Distribution of Hydrocarbon Resource (undergraduate), and Geology Engineering Evaluation of Petroleum Exploration (postgraduate). His main research interests include: petroleum geochemistry, oil and gas accumulation, and resource assessment. Recently, he shows great interest in the unconventional petroleum resource system and organic geochemistry of carbonate source rock. Previously, he has obtained several supports from the Changqing Oilfield Company Foundation from 2015 to 2016, National Natural Science Foundation of China from 2014 to 2017, and Yumen Oilfield Company Foundation from 2013 to 2015.

The synopsis of the presentation is as follows:

“Based on my preparation before testing and geochemistry, and my analysis of the cutting source rocks from 6 exploratory wells, I will discuss the geochemistry of Tertiary source rocks. In reference to the Block-15 within the Red Sea, topics discussed will include: organic richness, parent material type, thermal evolution, hydrocarbon-generating history, basin modelling, and migration-accumulation units.”

Refreshments will be provided! We look forward to seeing you at the presentation.
