Faculty of Social Work

Application Information +

If you have previously attended another recognized college, university, or technical institute, you are considered a college/university transfer student. Post-secondary transfer admission averages are calculated using the Admissions Grade Point Average (AGPA). The AGPA is calculated by combining recognized academic post-secondary courses and attempted U of R courses.

Official college/university transcripts must be sent directly from the post-secondary institution(s) to Enrolment Services at the U of R. We accept mailed and e-mailed transcripts sent directly from the issuing institution(s). We also accept electronic transcripts delivered via vendors authorized by the sending institution such as Parchment, Digitary (MyCreds), National Student Clearinghouse, and others. Finally, we accept transcripts from online verification portals that have secure log in portals such as International Baccalaureate and Cambridge Exams.

We will also accept official World Education Services (WES) International Credential Advantage Package (ICAP) assessments. When you are completing the request, you will choose "University of Regina" and "Office of Undergraduate Admissions" as the "Recipient", which can be sent either by mail or electronically.

All documents that are supplied in support of applications for admission become the property of the University of Regina and will not be forwarded to another institution.

English Language Proficiency
The language of instruction at the University of Regina is English. All applicants to the University of Regina must therefore demonstrate an appropriate level of proficiency in the English language. Find information on English language proficiency requirements here.

Post-Secondary Admission Requirements +

Pre-Social Work and Indigenous Social Work Qualifying:

Applicants who have attempted 15 credit hours or more of approved post-secondary education must have a minimum AGPA of 70% on the most recent 30 credit hours of post-secondary courses attempted. Applicants may also be admitted on the basis of completion of a bachelor’s degree.

If applicants have attempted fewer than 15 credit hours, their admission will be based on high school admission requirements.

Bachelor of Social Work and Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work:
A minimum AGPA of 70% is required using the most recent 30 credit hours of approved courses. This includes courses from the University of Regina and other recognized post-secondary institutions attended, and is not limited to successfully completed courses. U of R applicants must also have a minimum UGPA of 60%.

Additional Information for Social Work +

Additional Requirements for Bachelor of Social Work:

Students applying for conditional admission who have not yet attained 30 credit hours will have their BSW Admission GPA calculated using all post-secondary courses completed by the application deadline of January 15th. Additionally, English 100, Indigenous Studies 100, Psychology 101, Sociology 100, and Social Work 100 (or equivalent from other recognized institutions) must be completed (and transcripts must be received by January 15th if completed at another institution). Conditionally admitted applicants must maintain a 70% GPA for full admission; therefore, the BSW Admission GPA will be re-calculated at the end of the Winter term using the applicant’s most recent 30 credit hours. Applicants to the BSW must have human service experience, and current U of R students must also have a minimum UGPA of 60%. Admission to the BSW is competitive.

Additional Requirements for Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work:

Students who have completed the 24 credit hour requirements in the INSW Qualifying program, may pick up their application package either at the Indigenous Social Work program office of FNUniv Saskatoon Campus or Student Success Services of FNUniv Northern Campus and Regina Campus. A cover letter, resume, three reference letters, a statement on aspirations in ISW, and up-to-date criminal record and vulnerable sector checks are required to be submitted with the application.
