U Prairie Challenge Presented by SaskMilk

Friends. Rivals. Two Universities. One Title.

The U Prairie Challenge presented by SaskMilk is a celebration of varsity sport in Saskatchewan!

This annual points-based competition between the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan involves 11 different men’s and women’s events, including soccer, football, hockey, volleyball, basketball, track and field, and cross country.

Football Weekend in Saskatchewan

The inaugural season’s official kick-off event takes place during Football Weekend in Saskatchewan (September 16 & 17). The weekend will begin with the Roughriders Lights Out Game on Friday, September 16 against the Edmonton Elks and continue through Saturday when the Saskatoon Hilltops visit the Regina Thunder in the afternoon and the University of Saskatchewan Huskies play the University of Rams Saturday evening.

Fans will be able to buy bundled ticket packages for all three games with special student sections at the Roughrider game set aside for Hilltops and Huskies fans and Thunder and Rams fans to sit among friends and fellow supporters.

Scoring System

For sports with single-event competitions in which both teams have declared Canada West participation for that year, one point is awarded to the school which places higher at the Canada West Championship.

For sports with full-season competitions in which both teams have declared Canada West participation for that year, one point is awarded based on head-to-head results:

  • A full single point shall be awarded to the winner of a regular season game in sports where teams meet only once
  • Partial points are awarded to winners of each regular season game in sports where teams meet multiple times, with wins being weighted so one single point is allocated for each sport
  • A tie results in the two teams splitting the available points for that game
