Dr. Shannon Dea is the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and a Professor in the Department of Philosophy and Classics at the University of Regina.

She researches and teaches about social and feminist philosophy, and issues in higher education. She is the author of Beyond the Binary: Thinking About Sex and Gender, and of numerous articles and book chapters. The author of the University Affairs column called "Dispatches on Academic Freedom," Dr Dea is also the principal investigator on a SSHRC-funded project that seeks to develop better academic freedom protections for precarious and minoritized scholars. Dr Dea regularly engages with the public and the media on topics ranging from freedom of expression to social justice issues, and has worked closely with community agencies aimed at supporting some of society’s most vulnerable members. She is a recipient of the Ontario Women’s Directorate’s Leading Women Building Communities Award and of University of Waterloo’s Distinguished Teacher Award.
