Students and faculty are invited to join in the conversation on how innovation, engineering, investment, and policy collide to shape the energy economy of tomorrow. The panel moderated by Zack Mauer, will feature U of R alum and energy entrepreneur Mike Cameron, with Dr. Margot Hurlburt and Dr. Grant Wilson. Attendees will gain firsthand perspectives from founders, researchers, and industry experts who are redefining what’s possible in Canada’s energy landscape and what skills and mindsets the next generation of leaders will need to thrive. Lunch will be provided to attendees.

About the Panelists

Mike Cameron, President of NL Fisher Supervision & Engineering Ltd., is a Professional Engineer with over 25 years of oil and gas experience and a U of R Industrial Systems Engineering graduate. He has led more than $1.5B in engineering projects across North America and now channels his expertise into developing software innovations that advance operational excellence in the energy sector.

Dr. Margot Hurlburt holds degrees in Business Administration (U of R), Law (Osgoode), and a Ph.D. in Social and Behavioural Sciences from the University of Amsterdam. Her research focuses on energy, climate change, agriculture, and water, and she serves as Coordinating Lead Author for the IPCC, Research Board member of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and Lead of the Science, Technology and Innovation Research Cluster at JSGS. 

Dr. Grant A. Wilson is an Associate Professor of Marketing and Innovation at the Hill and Levene Schools of Business. His research focuses on marketing, strategy, and innovation. He has published over 35 peer-reviewed articles in top management journals. His research has been featured in The Globe & Mail, National Post, and by the World Economic Forum.

Zach Maurer, the moderator, has over a decade of experience in North America’s energy sector, working on production, environmental, and hydrogeologic projects across Canada and the U.S. He founded Prairie Lithium in 2019, leading it as President & CEO until its acquisition by Arizona Lithium in 2023, the same year he received the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal.
