We’re beyond proud to announce that Miranda Derkson— graduating with a BBA in Accounting with Great Distinction from the Hill School of Business, is the recipient of both the Faculty of Business Administration Dean’s Medal and the University Prize in Business Administration at the University of Regina Fall 2024 Convocation.

Miranda’s university journey has been nothing short of remarkable — marked by her impressive leadership and commitment to extra-curricular activities that have left a lasting impact on her peers and the broader community.

  • She demonstrated outstanding leadership skills serving as a Portfolio Manager for the University of Regina Investing Fund, managing over $640,000 in investments and supervised Research Associates.
  • She participated in the CFA Society Research Challenge in 2024 and the CFA Society Ethics Challenge in 2022.
  • Additionally, Miranda was the initiator and leader of Women in Finance, where she hosted workshops and keynote speaker events, secured resources for the UR Investing website that enriched her fellow students’ education, and addressed barriers faced by women working in the finance industry.
  • Her commitment to leadership in extra-curricular activities was also exemplified in her role of Co-Director of Finance – University of Regina Champions of Change. In this role, Miranda supported gender equality initiatives within the Regina community by managing budgets for donations and club events, as well as preparing grants and other funding applications.
  • With a GPA of 85.61% and four appearances on the Faculty Dean’s Honours list — Miranda’s academic excellence shines alongside her leadership. Her commitment to both academics and community service has set a new standard of achievement.
