The Alumni Effect: Queer Healthcare Talk with Dr. Kara Haus BKin'16

This month, we're joined by Dr. Kara Haus BKin'16.

Dr. Kara Haus

Dr. Kara Haus graduated from the University of Regina in 2016 with a Bachelor of Kinesiology in Human Kinetics. She then went on to graduate as a Doctor of Chiropractic from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2020 and has a successful practice out of the Pattison Health Centre in Lumsden, Saskatchewan.

Kara holds a special interest in queer healthcare and initiatives that benefit trans and gender diverse people in healthcare settings as well as other workplace situations. She has proudly taken part in many initiatives over the last few years including the start up and presidency of a queer club at CMCC that advances education in queer health for chiropractic students, participating in the Friends 4 Life Bike Rally in 2019 to raise funds for People With AIDS in Toronto, and she has been invited to speak at GSA Summits in Saskatchewan high schools.

Dr. Haus also sits on two active task forces for the Canadian Chiropractic Association; one devoted to the continuing education of chiropractors in Canada regarding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in chiropractic, and the other dedicated to enhancing the chiropractic patient experience in Canada. She was invited to speak at the National Chiropractic Convention in 2022 in Montreal on the Women in Chiropractic panel.

At present, Dr. Haus is in the process of launching an education-based initiative to present information throughout Saskatchewan and beyond to help make every workplace, healthcare facility, and educational institution comfortable in welcoming and affirming queer patients, clients, and staff members. Her mission is to make queer health and language fun to learn and easy to implement in workplaces across the country.
