This lecture offers a respectful but critical examination of recent gender policy changes in provincial K-12 education across the country, particularly in New Brunswick and Saskatchewan. These policies—introduced under the banner of “parental rights”—have created confusion, undermined psychological safety, and politicized school environments, often to the detriment of students, teachers, and administrators. Rather than simply navigating these challenges, this session focuses on how we can actively shape more inclusive, equitable, and evidence-based policy. With attention to EDI implications and the lived experiences within schools, we’ll explore how community engagement, clear communication, and courageous leadership can move us toward meaningful, student-centered change.
