News Release Release Date: January 21, 2013 1:00 p.m.

Fifty-one students from the University of Regina’s Paul J. Hill School of Business competed against students from 12 other universities across western Canada in the JDC West Business Competition this weekend from January 18-20. JDC West showcases the well roundedness of business students by testing the community mindedness and collegiality of teams along with academic metrics.

University of Regina teams placed in five categories: first in taxation, third in marketing, first in charitable volunteer hours, first in charitable fundraising, and second in participation.  JDC West celebrates academic excellence and team synergy by providing opportunities for business students in western Canada to achieve excellence in academics, social responsibility, and social competitions. JDC West is the largest business case competition that is organized by and for business students in Western Canada.

“Our students’ strong placement in both academic and community-minded categories speaks to their commitment to the university’s motto ‘as one who serves,’ said faculty advisor Lisa Watson. “Our students devote countless hours over several months preparing for this competition and the caliber of their performance is always outstanding.  We are looking forward to showcasing our students’ abilities and our city when the University of Regina hosts JDC West in 2014.”

Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Andrew Gaudes said he is excited for the University of Regina to host the 2014 competition on January 17 to 19.

“JDC West is a very competitive event and the skills of participants are getting stronger every year,” he said, noting that this is largely due to the dedicated coaching faculty and passionate students.

“Today is “day one” in our preparation for JDC West 2014. We will be back next year to raise the bar in the competition while hosting it right here in Regina,” he added.
