Conference encourages greater leadership roles for women

News Release Release Date: August 25, 2015 3:00 p.m.

The University of Regina is hosting an international conference on mentoring women leaders in post-secondary education.

“Transformational Leadership in Higher Education: Women at the Forefront of Professional Coaching” encourages participants to learn how coaching and mentoring can encourage a collaborative approach to leadership.

“Women are under-represented in leadership positions – and it is still an issue in North America and around the world,” says University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vianne Timmons who gave the keynote address to delegates.

“Being a leader is a journey and not a destination. There’s always more to learn and new people to learn from. It’s an evolving process that is never complete.”

The conference participants represent universities in Brazil, China, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, Mexico and Spain.

The conference is sponsored by the University of Regina, UR International, The Inter-American Organization for Higher Education, and EMULIES, an organization that encourages connecting women leaders from Higher Education Institutions.
