University of Regina participating in Treaty 4 Gathering

The University of Regina is proud to participate in the upcoming annual Treaty 4 Gathering in Fort Qu’Appelle.

  • Friday September 14: State of the Lakes - Dr. Peter Leavitt, professor (biology), in the Faculty of Science, Canada Research Chair in Environmental Change and Society, and Director of the Canadian Institute of Ecology and Evolution and Institute of Environmental Change and Society will present a report where he will share 25 years of data regarding the health of the Qu’Appelle River Valley watershed. Recently named a Fellow of the prestigious Royal Society of Canada, his presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Treaty 4 Governance Centre Teepee.   • Saturday, September 15: Parade - University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vianne Timmons will participate in the Treaty 4 Gathering Parade where Faculty of Science students will be handing out free Wetland Kits to the crowd. During the parade, Faculty of Science students will hand out free Wetland Kits to the crowd. The kits contain a selection of native prairie flower seeds that support important insect pollinators such butterflies and bees. The parade begins at 11:00 a.m. in the Town of Fort Qu’Appelle.
  • Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16: Elders’ Tent - The University of Regina's Faculty of Science is also honoured to sponsor the Elders' Tent; members of the Faculty of Science and the Calling Lakes EcoMuseum will serve as hosts. We gratefully acknowledge Ducks Unlimited for providing the tent. The Elders' Tent will be open from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Treaty 4 Powwow Grounds.
