Health and Safety Online Safety Courses

Health and Safety Online Safety Courses are available on UR Courses

The Health and Safety Orientation Course is a self-enrolled course and takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.  This course provides students, faculty, and staff with general health and safety information relevant to the University of Regina.

The Risk Assessment/Theory Course is a self-enrolled course and takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.  This course provides students, faculty, and staff with the concepts and processes of risk assessment in order to assist with planning their work or learning activities in the safest manner possible.

CHEMICAL & LABORATORY SAFETY ONLINE COURSE HAS A NEW LOOK!!
Health and Safety is pleased to announce the launch of the new Chemical & Lab Safety (CLS) Course.  The course has undergone major changes that include a sleek new design and updated course materials, with more intuitive and essential content that is easy to navigate.


Streamlined Learning Experience

The new CLS course is offered in the RISE 360 platform which replaces multiple PowerPoint presentations and provides a smoother transition between modules and quizzes.

Enhanced Certification

In addition to receivng your CLS certificate, participants registered in the new course will now receive certificates for successfully completing the Health and Safety Orientation Course and Risk Assessment Course.  If you have previously completed the Health and Safety Orientation Course and Risk Assessment Course -- no problem!  You do not need to retake them; you will automatically move to the online CLS course.

*Participants registered for ONLY Chemical & Lab Safety (CLS), must successfully complete the online portion of the course PRIOR to registering for a CLS mandatory workshop (WHMIS exam included). 

CLS mandatory workshops have a maximum of 12 participantsThe Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering & Applied Science, and Faculty of Kinesiology & Health Studies encourage participants to successfully complete the CLS online course and mandatory in-person workshop as soon as possible.  Failure to do so may result in being denied access to teaching and research space(s) that require the completion of the CLS course.

**Participants registered for BOTH Biosafety Awareness and CLS courses, must successfully complete the online portions for both courses PRIOR to registering for a mandatory CLS workshop FIRST.  After completing a CLS workshop, Health and Safety will send an email to your official UofR email advising that you are now eligible to register for a Biosafety Awareness mandatory workshop.

Biosafety Awareness workshops have a maximum of eight (8) participantsThe Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering & Applied Science, and Faculty of Kinesiology & Health Studies encourage participants to successfully complete the online courses and mandatory workshops for Chemical & Lab Safety and Biosafety Awareness as soon as possible.  Failure to do so may result in being denied access to teaching and research space(s) that require the completion of Chemical & Lab Safety and Biosafety Awareness courses.

Chemical & Lab Safety Mandatory Workshop

To register for a Chemical & Lab Safety (CLS) mandatory workshop,  participants must have successfully completed the online course for CLS.  Please email health.safety@uregina.ca with your choice of workshop date.  

YOUR EMAIL MUST INCLUDE:
a)  First and Last Name
b)  Faculty or Department
c)  Student/Employee ID# (if known)
d)  Date of requested CLS workshop
e)  Name of Supervisor

NOTE:  Mandatory workshop email requests must be submitted to health.safety@uregina.ca 24 hours prior to the CLS workshop date.

CLS mandatory workshops have a maximum of twelve (12) participants
The Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering & Applied Science, and Faculty of Kinesiology & Health Studies encourages students to successfully complete the CLS course and workshop as soon as possible.  Failure to do so may result in being denied access to teaching and research space(s) that require the completion of the Chemical and Lab Safety course.

Spring 2025

Tuesday, May 6 - 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm
Thursday, May 29 - 9:00 am to 11:30 am

Health and Safety must receive your workshop request email at least 24 hours prior to the requested workshop date/time.

*Workshops cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control and/or low enrollment will be rescheduled as soon as possible.

Biosafety Awareness Mandatory Workshops

To register for a Biosafety Awareness mandatory workshop, participants must have successfully completed BOTH online courses for Chemical & Lab Safety (CLS) and Biosafety Awareness) AND have successfully completed a CLS mandatory workshop.

AFTER completing a CLS workshop, Health and Safety will send an emal to your official UofR email address advising that you are now eligible to register for a Biosafety Awareness workshop.  To register, please email health.safety@uregina.ca with your choice of workshop date.

Biosafety Awareness mandatory workshops have a maximum of eight (8) participants.  Registered participants for a Biosafety Awareness workshop are asked to bring a laptop to the workshop.  Participants will have 30 minutes during the `workshop to successfully complete (minimum passing grade is 80%) the Hazard Identification Assignment and Autoclave Quiz (UR Courses).


The Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering & Applied Science, and Faculty of Kinesiology & Health Studies encourages students to successfully complete Chemical & Lab Safety and Biosafety Awareness safety courses and workshops as soon as possible.  Failure to do so may result in being denied access to teaching and research space(s) that require the completion of Chemical & Lab Safety and Biosafety Awareness courses.
