Brenda Rossow-Kimball
Hi! I am an Associate Professor in the field of adaptive physical activity (APA). I have been with the Faculty since 2004. My academic and community work recognizes dominant social narratives that are created/imposed through policy, attitudes, infrastructure and more. Essentially, I am interested in how words and behaviours, supports and programs, and buildings and other ‘things’ either welcome or discourage people with disabilities from participating in our communities. My research interests have included experiences of leisure for people with disabilities, cultural relevance in group homes, the strengths of families as they navigate barriers to services, and reflexive thinking and writing in APA. I enjoy gardening, golfing, and watching sitcom reruns (Seinfeld, especially). I listen to 80s/90s hair bands and I enjoy playing music in my leisure time. Oh, one more thing: I live with hearing loss in my right ear so please orientate yourself to my left when talking! Much appreciated!
