David Roman is a demi-gendered second-generation Chilean settler living in Treaty 4 territory. They are a sound designer, sound mixer, music producer, podcaster, and content creator with over two decades of experience working within the audio/video arts. They have collaborated on several award-winning films, and their work has screened at many international film festivals. David also has a background as a commercial sound designer and sound mixer, which has involved working on several television shows, commercials, and podcasts for high profile clients. Musically they are a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and sound mixer who creates in several musical genres. They have been involved in music production for countless local artists and have also provided music composition for several films, commercials, and podcasts. More recently, David has branched out into content creation and livestreaming, with a focus on working as an interdisciplinary digital media artist. David founded Roman Empire Studios in 2013, which continues today to provide high quality audio services to filmmakers and podcasters throughout Saskatchewan.

David’s formal educational training is as a social worker. They completed a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Regina in 2010. Their social work career has involved working for several government and non-profit agencies through Saskatchewan, with a heavy focus on collaborating with Indigenous communities. This background as a social work provides them a unique creative perspective that focuses on empathy and the psychological impact of art. David’s combined knowledge and skills place them in an ideal position to see an audio project through from initial conception to final audio master, and they do this in a way that is highly sensitive to the emotional journey of the creative process.

David seeks to create art in a collaborative and ethical way cognizant of social issues. He previously worked with underprivileged youth in a music production setting and has provided audio and music for several projects that empowered communities actively experiencing oppression. David focuses on anti-oppressive practice and is a proponent of social justice as an activist and artist.
