Please join the Department of Visual Arts for an artist talk by Pelmus Snowbird: Theo Pelmus and Kristin (Kris) Snowbird.

Pelmus Snowbird

 

Artistic collaborators and married partners Theo Pelmus (he/him) and Kristin (Kris) Snowbird (she/her) will present a comprehensive overview of their performance-based and digital artworks in an immersive, performative talk. Their work delves into themes of intimacy, land, relationships, spirituality, and resilience. The artists will highlight how they use digital and ephemeral media to reinvent artistic traditions blending elements from their Romanian (Pelmus) and Cree/Ojibwe from Pinecreek First Nation (Snowbird) backgrounds.

 

Pelmushas exhibited internationally, including Bogota, New York, Copenhagen, and the Bucharest Biennial, and received awards from the Ontario Arts Council and City of Ottawa. Pelmus holds two MFAs and a BFA in fine arts.

 

Snowbird is a multidisciplinary artist from Pine Creek First Nation. Highlights of her artistic career include her solo show at Urban Shaman Gallery (2019), national and international screenings of her film SWEAT, and residencies at Video Pool Media Arts Centre in 2019/20 and 2023.

Additional Information: Art for Lunch is a free speaker series presented by the Department of Visual Art and the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance. Speakers are local, national, and international artists, arts administrators, and curators. Most Art for Lunch events will take place in-person.
