A Project Resilience fundraiser: In conversation with former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney
On Wednesday, June 1, 2022, the University of Regina – along with its partners at the Regina & District Chamber of Commerce – will welcome former Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, as the featured speaker at a public fundraising event for Project Resilience.
The University established the Project Resilience fund earlier this year to support students affected by war or other forms of political violence in their home countries. The event will include testimonials from two University of Regina students whose home countries have been ravaged by war and who can speak about the importance of an initiative such as Project Resilience.
“Around the world, armed conflicts continue to be a terrible blight for humanity, and are traumatizing for several of our students whose homelands and families are directly affected," said Dr. Jeff Keshen, University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor. “With his unique insights and world view, former Prime Minister Mulroney has a great deal to offer as we contemplate how to mitigate and wherever possible prevent these human tragedies, so I invite everyone to join us for what promises to be a fascinating discussion.”
The event will feature First Nations University of Canada professor Patricia Elliott, in conversation with the former Prime Minister, who will appear via video link. As Prime Minister, Mulroney served as co-chair of the United Nations World Summit for Children and was instrumental in the campaign against apartheid in South Africa, the reunification of Germany, and the liberation of Kuwait in the First Gulf War.
“I also wish to acknowledge and thank the Regina Chamber of Commerce for their generous support for this event, Project Resilience and our students,” said Dr. Keshen.
A reception with light refreshments and a cash bar will follow the program. Audience members will have an opportunity to submit questions as time allows.
