UR Days hits the road on May 9 with a five-city tour around Saskatchewan

Release Date: April 29, 2022 2:30 PM

The University of Regina is pleased to announce the launch of UR Days – a travelling education expo and speaker series geared toward energizing and inspiring the next generation of U of R students. Throughout the month of May, President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jeff Keshen will be joined by U of R faculty and staff as he tours the province to meet future students at high schools in Weyburn, Yorkton, Swift Current, Regina, and Prince Albert.

Through a variety of classroom and after-school activities, along with an on-site information expo, students will learn all about our dynamic academic and athletic programs, cutting-edge research, and what campus life has to offer at the U of R.

“I look forward to travelling around the province and meeting with the next generation of U of R students. Our University is a wonderful place to receive an affordable, top-quality post-secondary education,” said Dr. Keshen. “We set our students up for both life and career success and I am so proud to show off the best of what the U of R has to offer.”

In each of the five cities, the U of R will also host a free, open to the public, evening speaker series.

Swish Goswami, who will join us virtually at all five events, is only 24 years old and has already worked with companies like Netflix, the NBA, the NFL and Sony Music. While he has built a remarkable career and has been recognized as Startup Canada’s Young Entrepreneur of the year, his true “super-power” is teaching people how to be effective social media storytellers. A LinkedIn Top Voice on entrepreneurship, Goswami will teach anyone, of any age, how to tell their story online.

Dr. Erica Carleton, U of R Assistant Professor and RBC Women in Leadership Research Scholar, will join the tour for the first four lectures. Dr. Carleton’s presentation will discuss her background and work at the University of Regina, as well as her current research on the topic of leadership, gender, and well-being.

Dr. Raven Sinclair, is a Sixties Scoop survivor and University of Regina Professor and researcher. She has studied the Sixties Scoop and Indigenous Child Welfare in Canada for two decades, most recently with the support of a five year Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Insight Grant. In Prince Albert, Dr. Sinclair will discuss what the Scoop is and some of her experiences as a Cree woman raised in a white family, and why research is important as a tool for providing evidence-based recommendations for policy and program changes to child welfare.

The University of Regina will visit the following cities:

  • Weyburn: Monday, May 9 – Cugnet Centre, Weyburn Comprehensive School
  • Yorkton: Thursday, May 12 – National Bank Convention Place, Gallagher Centre
  • Swift Current: Tuesday, May 17 – Social Hall, Innovation Credit Union I-plex

About the University of Regina

Set in the heart of the Canadian prairies we are a comprehensive, mid-sized university where the opportunities are as limitless as the horizon. Our campuses are on Treaty 4 and 6 - the territories of the nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda peoples, and the homeland of the Michif/Métis nation. It is our responsibility to strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities to build a more inclusive future for all. Our three federated colleges, 10 faculties, 25 academic departments, and 18 research centres foster innovative research with practical and theoretical applications. We are committed to cultivating the potential of our 16,700 students and supporting their health and well-being. We take learning beyond the classroom through work and volunteer experiences to develop career-ready graduates.

Let’s go far, together.
