University of Regina hosts students from around the world for Discovery Camp Saskatchewan 2022
Throughout July, the University of Regina is hosting students from around the world for Discovery Camp Saskatchewan 2022, a solution-based and experience-oriented learning program to address sustainability issues and ideas from a Saskatchewan perspective.
The program is led by the University of Regina in partnership with University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific (UMAP), the Ministry of Advanced Education, and other post-secondary institutions and agencies throughout the province.
“The University of Regina and its partners are proud to be hosting Discovery Camp Saskatchewan 2022, which will help develop the next generation of global citizens and leaders in sustainable development,” said Dr. Jeff Keshen, University of Regina President & Vice-Chancellor. “I commend these students for taking an engaged and optimistic approach to the future that will serve their home communities very well in years to come.”
Students from Saskatchewan and around the world have already been taking part in virtual events throughout July to discover Saskatchewan’s rich cultures, explore its resource sector, and learn about the academic and research strengths of Saskatchewan’s post-secondary institutions in the area of sustainability.
The program’s in-person component runs July 21-27 and will include visits to Regina, Saskatoon, and the Qu’Appelle Valley. Students from eight different countries will be part of that tour.
Students enrolled in the in-person program will also participate in the Government of Saskatchewan's Student Ambassador Program. This program supports the promotion of Saskatchewan to increase partnerships with institutions around the world.
“I’m proud to welcome students participating in Discovery Camp Saskatchewan to our great province, so they can see firsthand the benefits of studying, living and working here,” Advanced Education Minister Gordon S. Wyant said. “As part of the province’s International Education Strategy, this program will increase the number of Saskatchewan student ambassadors around the world who will promote our province as a destination of choice to prospective students and their families.”
The program concludes with a ceremony that will showcase the students’ reflections on how individual efforts and societal changes can contribute to a community’s sustainable development.
