Dr. Isabelle Dostaler begins new role as U of R’s Provost and Vice-President (Academic)
Dr. Isabelle Dostaler will begin a five-year term as the University of Regina's new Provost and Vice-President (Academic) on June 1. Dr. Dostaler was initially scheduled to start her new role on October 1, 2022. Then, she was diagnosed with lymphoma and her plans were put on hold while she began to receive treatment. She recently found out that she is in remission, and she is eager to get started at the U of R.
Her appointment comes after a comprehensive, nation-wide search in 2022 which included public presentations.
Dr. Dostaler is joining the University after five years at Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador (MUN) where she served as the dean of the Faculty of Business Administration. Prior to her posting at Memorial, she was a professor of management at Concordia University's John Molson School of Business. While at Concordia, she served as director of accreditation, director of the aviation MBA, and director of the executive MBA.
"I am truly honoured to have this opportunity," says Dr. Dostaler. "I do like new beginnings and fresh starts and I have a great feeling about Regina. I really believe that universities need to be community-centred and it's obvious that this institution is embedded in the city and the province."
Dr. Dostaler will be taking over the position from Dr. david Gregory, who has been the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) since 2020. Dr. Gregory will transition out of the role by the end of June.
"The entire University community was rooting for Dr. Dostaler’s full and speedy recovery, and it is wonderful that she is now able to join us," says President Keshen. “She looks forward to making a wide variety of meaningful contributions that will enhance the institution's performance in areas such as: student success and satisfaction; teaching and learning; experiential education; Indigenization and decolonization; and equity, diversity, and inclusion."
Dr. Dostaler holds bachelor’s and master's degrees from HEC Montréal. She earned a PhD in management study from the University of Cambridge.
Dr. Dostaler is looking forward to getting started in her new role and immersing herself in everything the U of R has to offer. She will be available for media interviews during the afternoon of Friday, June 2. Interviews can be arranged through the contact noted.
