Northlands College and University of Regina forge ground-breaking partnership, expanding educational opportunities in northern Saskatchewan

Release Date: July 4, 2023 11:00 AM

In an exciting development for education in Northern Saskatchewan, the University of Regina and Northlands College have officially entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), solidifying their commitment to collaboration and the advancement of knowledge. This ground-breaking partnership will empower learners and create new career pathways for residents in the region, bolstering representation in the industry as well.

The partnership allows Northlands College to deliver essential programs from the University of Regina to Northern Saskatchewan through a diverse range of delivery methods. This includes face-to-face instruction and a hybrid model combining face-to-face and synchronous remote sections.

A key highlight of this agreement is the "shared remote" section for hybrid University courses scheduled at the College, which is in addition to the College’s remote section. This innovative approach ensures that learners from various regions can benefit from the expertise and resources of the University of Regina.

Karsten Henriksen, President & CEO of Northlands College, expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunities this MOA brings to Northern Saskatchewan. He stated, "This collaboration with the University of Regina opens up a world of possibilities for our learners. The exchange of knowledge and expertise will not only enrich their educational experiences but also pave the way for new career prospects. By expanding access to higher education, we are empowering Northern Saskatchewan residents to unlock their potential and contribute to the growth and development of our region."

“This agreement enables students in northern Saskatchewan to take University of Regina courses and programs without having to leave their home communities,” said Dr. Jeff Keshen, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Regina. “We are happy to partner with Northlands College in such a meaningful way to expand educational opportunities in the north and thereby enhance career prospects for Saskatchewan students.”

Through this strategic partnership, Northlands College, and the University of Regina, aim to bridge educational gaps and empower learners with cutting-edge knowledge and skills. By extending the reach of university courses to Northlands College, this collaboration will have a profound impact on the education landscape in Northern Saskatchewan, enabling learners to pursue higher education without leaving their communities.
