Glossary Term: Service Animal

Definition:

an animal that is trained to assist an individual with symptoms or limitations arising from their disabilities. Although service animals have traditionally helped people with physical disabilities such as blindness, deafness or limited mobility, there are a wide range of other disabilities for which service animals provide assistance, including psychiatric disabilities. The following are examples: Guide Dog, Hearing Dog, Assist Dog, Social Signal Dog, Seizure Response Dog, and Psychiatric Service Dog.
