Your Parchment

Students who have an outstanding account with Financial Services, the Library, AV Services, or a federated college, may be approved for graduation, have their degree, diploma, or certificate conferred, and participate in the convocation ceremony. Your parchment and any other certification, including transcripts, will be withheld until your account is paid in full. You can make payment at Financial Services, AH 205, or via UR Self-Service.

You are encouraged to attend Convocation to receive your parchment; however, if you do not attend the ceremony, you may collect your parchment at the Registrar’s Office beginning Tuesday, June 11. You may also arrange for someone to pick-up your parchment by providing them with a signed letter of authorization. Photo ID is required upon pick-up. Parchments not picked up by Monday, June 24 will be mailed to the current mailing address in UR Self-Service.

It is your responsibility to ensure your mailing address is up to date in UR Self-Service by June 11, 2019.  If your mailing address is incorrect in the system after this date, you will be responsible for the cost of parchment replacement and re-mailing fees.

As a graduand, you will enter by the Shumiatcher entrance at the southwest corner of the building, and assemble in the Shumiatcher Room. The Shumiatcher doors do not open until 12:30.  PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE. It takes time to line up the procession and the ceremony will start promptly at 2:00 p.m. The student procession will proceed to the stage at 1:30 p.m. and will be in place on stage when the ceremony starts. Your guests will enter at the main entrance. The doors open at 12:45 p.m. for general seating. The Conexus Arts Centre is completely wheelchair accessible, with wheelchair seating available on the orchestra (main) floor of the theatre.

Important: The University of Regina is committed to creating a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for all graduates and their guests. No artificial noisemakers, air horns or megaphones may be used at the Conexus Arts Centre.

Ticket Information

Graduands do not need tickets for the ceremony. Guests are not required to have tickets for the Spring 2019 convocation ceremony. No reservations or tickets are required for the ceremonies; however, due to the capacity of our venue, guest attendance is limited to four guests per graduand.

Post-Ceremony Reception

A complementary reception sponsored by the University of Regina and hosted by the University of Regina Women will be held in the Convention Hall on the lowest level of the Conexus Arts Centre immediately following the ceremony. Approximately 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tickets are not required and we encourage you and your guests to attend.  Finger sandwiches, dainties, veggie and fruit trays, coffee, tea, and punch will be served.

What to Wear

Although every effort is made to keep the stage temperature comfortable, with the intense lighting and weight of the academic gown, the stage area can become warm. Keep in mind you will be walking and climbing stairs, therefore, choose appropriate shoes and clothing. Corsages, extraneous apparel, jewelry and/or unapproved headgear are not permitted.

Please leave your purse, camera, cell phone, or anything you would need to carry with one of your guests, or do not bring these items with you. There is no place to store them during the ceremony, and they are not permitted on stage.

University regulations require graduates who are participating in the convocation ceremony to do so in approved academic regalia – that is an academic gown and hood. Certificate recipients do not wear a hood unless specified by the regalia guidelines. Students will not wear the hood of a previously earned degree, as they will receive a new hood at the ceremony. The University of Regina does not have mortarboards. All students wear black gowns except for the following: PhD students wear a scarlet gown with royal blue trim, facing and cuffs; Federated college students wear the colour of gown approved for the federated college – that is red for Campion College, royal blue for Luther College, and sky blue for the First Nations University of Canada.

Graduands are welcome to wear their Indigenous ceremonial dress, other cultural ceremonial dress, or their military or law enforcement dress uniform with, or instead of, the gown at the convocation ceremonies. In these instances, graduands must still be hooded and wear the University of Regina hood. Gowns and Hoods

There is no charge or form required for your gown and hood (regalia). Your Application for Graduation was your order form for the regalia you need based on your program and is reserved for you.

NOTE: If you are receiving two or more degrees/diplomas/certificates in the same ceremony, you will only cross once. All degrees/diplomas/certificates will be mentioned at the time of your crossing. If you have questions, please email ur.graduation@uregina.ca.

On the day of the ceremony, you will pick up your gown and hood between 12:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. in the Quebec and Ontario rooms. Regalia must be returned to the same location immediately following the ceremony, but not later than 4:30 p.m. If the regalia is not returned, following one unsuccessful attempt to retrieve the item(s), you will be charged the replacement value of the regalia:

  • PhD gown $500
  • PhD hood $55
  • Bachelor’s and Master’s gown $125
  • Bachelor’s hood $45
  • Master’s hood $55

Diploma Framing

The University of Regina Alumni Association provides a "while you wait" diploma framing service in the main lobby of the Conexus Arts Centre at Convocation. For more information, please view http://www.mdf-reg.ca/ .


Beautiful, fresh flowers will be available for purchase at the Conexus Arts Centre on the day of the ceremony or pre-ordered and have them for pick-up at the Centre at www.convocationflowers.ca/index.php/regina.

Commemorative T-Shirts

T-shirts will be for sale at the ceremony. The T-shirts contain all of the graduating students’ names for that convocation with the heading “University of Regina Graduating Class of ___”. Since all of the names are printed for each convocation on a single shirt (approx. 2200 names in the spring, 800 in the fall), the names appear quite small. If you would prefer not to have your name printed on the T-shirt, please contact the Convocation Coordinator at 306-585-4584 at least four weeks before the date of your ceremony.

NOTE: Picture taking from the audience during the ceremony is permitted; however there must not be any interference with the official photographers, and aisles and stairways must be kept clear. Audience members are not permitted on the stage area.


Access Communications Co-operative Limited will be televising the Convocation ceremony on Access 7 across the province at various times following the ceremony. These times will be printed in the Convocation Program and listed below. Commemorative DVD’s and thumb drives of the ceremony can be purchased by filling out the online request form found at www.myaccess.ca.

Convocation will be webcast live from the Conexus Arts Centre via the University of Regina website at Convocation Webcasts. The recorded webcasts will be posted after the ceremonies.
