Residence Life

The University experience involves much more than classes and books.  Living on campus, residents are granted special access to numerous clubs and activities that not only enrich their university lives, but also act as the starting point for lifelong memories and friendships.  The Residence Community Council (RCC) and RAs help to ensure that residents are always entertained and have a positive experience.  Whether it’s a discounted trip to a Rider’s game, a Winter formal, a Friday night glow bowling competition, free giveaways during welcome week, or button making in support of diversity, we all strive to make your Residence experience memorable.

Here at Residence Services, we strive for student success. Aside from the activities and events organized by the RCC or our RA team, we also offer many services designed to make your university years as easy and comfortable as possible. These services include:

Resident Assistants (RA)

If you're nervous about living on your own for the first time, or if you are simply looking for ways to get involved in the residence community, you have come to the right place! RAs are available to give you the support you need and information you want to help you make the most of your time with us.

RAs live in residence, and are hired and trained to assist you. They provide one-on-one support and help enforce Residence policies. They also plan fun events for residents, so feel free to talk to your RA about different events that you would like to see in Residence.

To contact your RA on call, please see our Resident Assistants web page.

Residence Life Coordinator (RLC)

Like RAs, the Residence Life Coordinators live in residence and are trained to assist and support residents. The RLCs are responsible for ensuring that a comfortable, student-focused living environment is created in residence. The RLCs work in the Residence Offices, and they are dedicated to meeting the needs, and addressing the concerns, of all students living in our on-campus accommodations.

Residence Community Assistants

Community Assistants are students who are on duty any time that the residence offices are closed (4:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. Monday to Friday, and 24 hours on weekends and holidays).  They are here to ensure your safety and security! If you need assistance after hours, please visit a CA! They are located in the Wakpá Tower and Kīšik Tower residence kiosks, main floor of each location.

Recycling Program

With 1500+ students living in residence, it is inevitable that a lot of waste is produced.  In order to ensure that our ecological footprint is reduced (if at least only slightly) we offer an excellent recycling program in each of our residence buildings.  Simply separate your plastic, paper, and metal recyclables and take them down with your garbage.  No need to search all over the city for a recycling center!

Bicycle and Extra Storage

Aside from recycling, you may also want to find alternative modes of transportation in order to further reduce your ecological footprint… or maybe you just want to get some exercise.  Regardless of your reasoning, if you supply the bike, we supply the storage.  Our bike storage is accessible only to those students with bikes, and offers 24 hour video surveillance.

Residence Services also has storage lockers with combination locks available for residents. If you're looking for a place to put your moving boxes or suitcases, or you need a place to put your things over the spring and summer, you can rent one of our lockers in College West, Wakpá, and Paskwāw Towers for a fee.

To find out more, please come and visit your Residence Office.

Laundry Rooms

Laundry rooms are located in each residence building:

  • In Kīšik (West and East), Wakpá, and Paskwāw Towers, the laundry rooms are on the 2nd floor.
  • In College West, there is a laundry room located on the 4th and 5th floors.
  • In La Résidence, the laundry room is located on the 8th floor.

To use the laundry facilities, you need a reloadable Coinamatic Smart-Card, which can be purchased at one of the Coinamatic machines. Laundry cards cost $5.00 each (non-refundable) to purchase and must be filled with at least an additional $5.00 at the card station before it can be used in the washer/dryer. You can also reload your card at these machines with $5, $10, $20 bills or (for specific machines) debit/credit. You can find these machines at the following locations:

  • Kīšik Towers on the 1st floor by the mailboxes.
  • Wakpá Tower on the 1st floor by the Residence Office
  • Paskwāw Tower on the 1st floor by the C-Store
  • College West on the 5th floor by the laundry room

  • Kīšik Towers on the 4th floor
  • La Résidence on the 4th floor

Game Rooms

Sometimes you need a break from studying.  Whether you want to de-stress with a fun game of pool, or challenge your roommates to a Wii bowling tournament, our residences are equipped with many recreational options.  We have table tennis, foosball tables, pool tables and air hockey.  You just need to sign out the equipment from your residence kiosk.

Game Room locations:

  • West Kīšik Tower on the 2nd to 4th floors
  • Wakpá Tower on the 2nd floor
  • College West on the 3rd and 4th floors

Residents may sign out equipment from their residence kiosk from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays, and from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekends. During the 24-hour quiet period, equipment can only be signed out from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily. Please return the equipment within 2 hours so that other residents can enjoy the Game Rooms, too!

DVD/Game system Sign-out

If pool’s not your thing and you would rather just watch a movie, then you can sign out DVD’s from our Residence Movie Library, located in the Wakpá Tower, Kīšik Towers and College West Security Kiosks.  You can also sign-out old school Nintendo gaming systems and games!!

Music Room

Music rooms with pianos are located on the 4th floor of College West and the 2nd floor of the Paskwāw and Wakpá Residences.  There is also a drum set in the Paskwāw Residence Games Room!

Grocery Bus

We understand that not all students have vehicles, and that not all students who have vehicles want to drive them all of the time.  It was for this reason that we started up the residence Grocery bus.  The grocery bus runs every weekend from September until April and is free!

The best part about living on campus is that you are always only a few steps away from your classes, numerous student societies, the health center, the gym, tennis courts, a swimming pool, etc.

Living on campus will definitely help you get the most out of your University Life!!
