Minor in French

Obtain a Minor in French as a Second Language by completing 6 FRN 100 and 200-level courses (18 credits). Obtain a Minor in French and Francophone Intercultural Studies by completing 6 courses (18 credits) at the FRN 200, 300 and 400 levels. 

Admission Requirements

  • Meet the University of Regina’s entrance requirements
  • Meet program requirements as specified in the undergraduate calendar
  • An overall university average of 65% is required
  • All students with knowledge of French must take the placement test below (otherwise they must enrol in FRN 100)

Please make an appointment with your academic advisor at the Student Services Centre in order to enrol in a minor.

Placement Test

The placement test is a pre-registration assessment required for admission to certain programs and prior to enrolling in your first French course or course offered in French at the University of Regina. Its purpose is to place you in the course that is most appropriate for your current language level. It is not used to meet the language proficiency requirement for international students.

  2. FRN 101 (Discovery II)*
  3. FRN 200 (Exploration I)
  4. FRN 201 (Exploration II)
  5. FRN 2XX (ex. FRN 220AB: French in Your Plate!)
  6. FRN 2XX (ex.  FRN 220AD: Canadian Francophone Cinema)          

*Or FRN 110 (Spring or Summer course covering content from FRN 100 and 101)

French and Francophone Intercultural Studies Minor

Can be completed in a minimum of 3 semesters

  1. FRN 201 (Exploration II)
  2. FRN 300  (Achievement I)
  3. FRN 301 (Achievement II)
  4. FRN 2XX* (ex. FRN 246: The Francophone World)
  5. FRN 2XX or 3XX (ex. FRN 340 AD: Francophone Women)
  6. FRN 3XX (ex.  FRN 366: Francophone Litterature)          

*FRN 200 may be used with a minimum grade of 75%
