Adam Vaughan

Dr. Vaughan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Justice Studies at the University of Regina. He also holds appointments as an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University and as a Research Associate with the Justice Institute of British Columbia.
Dr. Vaughan has authored 44 academic journal articles, book chapters, and research reports. He has secured over $900,000 in research funding which has supported collaborative projects with post-secondary institutions, research associates, and community partner organizations. His work is applied in nature and is intended to help stakeholders make evidence-informed decisions. As such, he frequently partners with other academics, with municipal, provincial/state and federal organizations, and non-governmental groups.
Dr. Vaughan uses a mixed-methods approach to explore on the intersections between the criminal justice system and individuals experiencing mental health and substance use challenges. As a health criminologist, his expertise centers on analyzing the complex spatial and temporal patterns that often emerge between vulnerable persons and the healthcare and criminal justice systems.
