Prior-Learning-Assessment

If you have considerable experience in a specialized area, you may be able to apply for university credit based on Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR).

What is PLAR?

Also referred to as RPL (recognition of prior learning) or PLA (prior learning assessment), PLAR is a process for assessing the knowledge and skills that you acquired through different learning experiences such as employment and volunteer work.

  •  Academic credit is not awarded for experience alone. PLAR requires the formal assessment of specific learning (e.g., knowledge and skills) that you acquired inside or outside of the classroom, at work or home, or in the community.

  • Check for new PLAR opportunities at the U of R and other post-secondary institutions
