Industrial Systems Engineering

What is Industrial Systems Engineering?

The Industrial Systems Engineer becomes an engineering generalist with specialized training in the nature, behaviour, control, and monitoring of engineering systems.

Our Program

The Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE) program is designed to train engineers to organize and effectively utilize the total resources of modern manufacturing and process industries: materials, machinery, facilities, people, and capital.

Graduate with:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Industrial Systems Engineering
  • Students in Co-operative Education graduate with a B.A.Sc. (Co-op) in Industrial Systems Engineering
  • Students in the Internship Program graduate with a B.A.Sc. (Internship) in Industrial Systems Engineering

The ISE program is fully accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board.

Undergraduate Calendar

ISE Graduate Program

  • Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) – Project focus or co-op
  • Master’s Certificate (M.Cert) – Advanced Manufacturing
  • Master of Applied Science (M.A.Sc.) – Thesis-based
  • Doctoral (Ph.D.) Program

What ISE Students Do

All engineering students take a common initial core program consisting of the basic maths and sciences needed by all engineers, plus introductory design courses.

Our ISE students study the strength of materials, principles of heat transfer, computer-aided engineering, and fluid mechanics, as well as process modeling in manufacturing industries and lean manufacturing. Students apply prior knowledge to machine design through simulation studies. Advanced studies in process engineering, control, operations management, and manufacturing are also strong program elements.

Undergraduate ISE Labs

Our laboratories feature software for engineering modeling and design, stress-strain analysis, and processing, manufacturing, and engineering management. Labs also feature equipment for mechanical properties, process, acoustic, and mechanical engineering testing. We have robotics labs and machinery for turning and milling operations.
