The Native Brotherhood at Saskatchewan Penitentiary Exhibition Opening Reception

The Native Brotherhood at Saskatchewan Penitentiary Exhibition Opening Reception
Monday, May 25th | 3:00–5:00 p.m.
Archway Exhibition Space, Dr. John Archer Library & Archives

Join us in-person for the opening reception of The Native Brotherhood at Saskatchewan Penitentiary Exhibition, curated by Jason Demers, Kihêw Flamont, Elder Errol Kinistino, Elder Harvey Knight, Josie Linka, and Emily Reid.

The Native Brotherhood was formed in Saskatchewan Penitentiary in 1964. Produced under the eyes of censors, their newsletter captures the power of brotherhood, culture, identity, and prisoner advocacy just as the crisis of Indigenous overincarceration was beginning to take hold. The exhibit features writing produced by prisoners in the 1960s and 1970s, and artwork produced by men currently incarcerated at Saskatchewan Penitentiary.

This exhibition runs through August 2026.

Light refreshments will be served.
